Why people do drugs after a breakup?

man i used to deal with i stop seeing him 3 months ago seen him a few days ago to give him closure (he was the cheater and liar having multiple women i wouldn't say breakup but situationship breakup) and he told me he startrd back sippin lean and confessed all this love he has for me but in the same breath said he's not changing but pleaded with me ever since i left him. mind y'all my mom just passed in August and he was so neglectful and it was the icing on the cake. is it regret? or what could his thoughts be during this time.

standard human. brains don't like pain, so they numb it. Have issue... don't want to change and repair the inner damage.

Solution they come up with since don't want to face change or don't know how: Ignore the problems, make no effort to solve them and numb with anything they can find, usually what they already know.

The real solution is: Gratitude, thanks... recognition of responsibliity... face with courage the coming challenge to find the truth... commit to work on self and broken pieces inside with love and truth... many ways to do that... try again at life.

To numb myself. Had no help, nobody to really turn to, and therapy is expensive. So numb myself or off myself. That's pretty much where I was at.
