Did you have a favourite childhood log?

Lizzy the logness monster was a 30ft piece of driftwood that had washed up on a welsh beach. She quickly became not only a major tourist attraction but a friend to thousands of local children.

Locals demanded the local council protected Lizzy but they were ignored and poor old Lizzy was swept away in recent storms, breaking the hearts of devastated little children.

So as a child did you have a favourite log that went missing? Tell us how it made you feel and if you ever truly recovered?

I lived in Miami most of my life and I still do. It’s a big city, even though we lived on an acre property with plenty of land I didn’t really have any stumps or any favorite logs to sit on. But however, we went to North Carolina to visit our family campground every summer as a child me growing up we had everything horseback riding mountain climbing, dirt bike riding, and hiking and people would actually camp in the mountains there at our campsites Plus, we had a real nice log cabin we would rent out. We had 138 acres. We had White water rapids and streams, fast flowing water and waterfalls. One of the managers at the time that was working there Came up with The idea that he saw from a TV show a log rolling championship competition in the actual river in the water where you and two other people Get on the log in the water, With nothing to hold onto, you have to have good balance so the two friends were getting on that log to see who would win it was a competition to see who could last the longest and then you would start spinning it forward with your 2 feet and. backwards as fast as you can to try to knock the other person, off of the log him or her to See who can Last the longest without falling off. The first person that falls off into the water is the loser and the guy remaining on the log is the winner. It’s fun and interesting. T he Worker made a rail so we could grab onto it because most of those people were amateurs and you could still spend the Log in the water as fast as you can and knock the person off of it. I was really good at it I would knock off the fellow campers off the log boys and girls. It was really fun They have professional competitions were men and women Can compete I’m sending you a video here. This has been done in TV shows and sports competition

We had lots of logs, but no favorites. I definitely didn’t name any of them. In hindsight, it probably wouldn’t have shocked anyone if i had. I had a very active imagination and named all of our livestock because i thought that they were pets. Ell oh ell!

We had lots of fun with logs growing up. They have so many fun uses. Tho my fave logs were the ones we put in the fireplace to keep us warm all long, miserable, horrible winter where I would whine and fuss about the attrocities of it all kinda' like I'm doing now.

During childhoood no. We used them as daggers, bows, swords , magic staffs etc. When playing outside but often discarded them in the evening.

I do have one now though. I made a druid staff with some basic woodcrafting and other add ons. Used it for larp.

Nothing as sophisticated as Lizzy. When I was young, we spent summers at a camp on Lake Ontario. There was a large log on the rocky beach that we kids liked to sit on and watch the ships on the lake. AFIK, the log didn't have a name.

when I was a kid me and my friends used to find a big log or a timber that washed up on the beach. we would nail a couple of coffee cans on it and fill them with gas. We would light them on fire andpushe the log out to sea. The gas would leak out through the nail holes in the bottom and spread a flaming gas slick on the ocean. It looked really cool from the shore.
One night we found a giant log and we nailed 3 cans to it and filled them up. We took too long to light them. I was standing in waist deep water and when I set the gas on fire. The gas had already seeped into the water I was standing in and it all around me was on fire. I ducked under the water and swam untilI no longer could see the flames.

There is an amusement park in southern California named Knott's Berry Farm. At one time, it had an area called Jungle Island with bushes, trees, trails, hills, and burro rides. Along the trails were stripped logs with branches that looked like whimsical animals, similar to Lizzy but not as large. Rough mouths and eyes were cut into them. Kids liked to climb on them.

There was a log along the path in Thetford forest that resembled an alligator... crocodile? Didn't check the width of it's snoot really, any rate... it was amusing to see small children become startled as they happened upon it.

No, we've still lots of woodland but that could have came from anywhere. Downstream from England or across from America on the current

@purplepoppy I have memories of enjoying parks I visited as a child. What kid in this western world doesn't remember enjoying the park, 🏞️ though I'm glad I've outgrown it.

I for one just think Poppy, lol "poppy" : anyways, even though you're not Scottish and neither are I, when I watched something about the Loch not so long ago, and the way the Doco interviewers made it seem, "it's better than people think there's nothing in the Loch, which there likely isn't ; if there's a monster or a creature in there, as Mewtwo says in one sequel "otherwise it would bring many humans searching for" ; it's a paraphrased quote when Mewtwo saves a bus in a storm with psychic distant powers and the talking Meowth and Pikachu ask why he did it and he says "only because a bus crash would bring many human rescuers and possibly find their hidden mountain cave* ; lol 😆 protecting the lake lol

So anyways - is there a just a log, a water snake, : it's best one never asks or knows, same how I feel about Gods or God or other @purplepoppy like aliens.
It's better not to know - knowing brings up far too many more uncomfortable's 😋🤭

Now Lizzy is a navigation hazard. Way to go local council. It would be hard to fully secure her but a couple of cables could have done a lot to keep her in place.
