My EX said this to me 2 years ago when we broke up! but he still contacts me several times a month(I don't call him tho) when his mom came into the country-he even called me so I could meer her! He says he has never had a girlfriend since our break up

I'll give you the hard truth of the matter. He probably found someone else. When someone tells you they think you are "too good" for them, they are making themselves feel better about something they have done that they know is a shitty thing to do. For example, if your in a relationship and things seem to be going pretty well, lets say the girl thinks everything is going well, as in your case. So things are going well and the guy makes it seem like he thinks things are going well too. Until one day when he meets a girl who sparks his interest and they start spending time together. In this instant he will feel horrible about having to break up with you, because maybe he does love you, just doesn't want to be with you anymore. So he tells you he thinks you are "too good" for him, because he has found someone else and doesn't want you to think he is a scumbag for that. The only reason you would be "too good" for him is if he thinks he is less of a person for doing a thing like that. It goes the same for girls, if they find a different guy that they find more interesting they will say the same thing. It isn't your fault. You are just being yourself and if he doesn't want to be with you then the best thing to do is to move on and find someone who wants to be with you more than he did. Don't call him out on this though. Make it seem as if you actually believe what he is telling you. Don't stay friends with him either. By staying friends with him you are putting yourself in as the safety net, don't do that to yourself. Cut off contact and don't speak to him unless he speaks to you. If he truly wants to be with you he will contact you about it, but until that day just try and move on to a better guy who won't do that to you. Good luck.

He still cares about you obviously and wants to be friends. A lot of exes will want to stay friends. It is a way to make them feel better about leaving you. By staying close to him as a friend he can still "be" with you without actually "being" with you. This is why most of the time it is just best to not even stay friends no matter how much you care about each other. Unless you feel that he is truly just trying to be a friend.

Either that or he just wants to keep you their in case his feelings come back for you. It is easy for exes to do this, because they will tell themselves that you are just friends but in fact they are stringing you along in case they can't find someone else. As soon as he misses you enough he will tell you and you will have to make your decision then. That is what happens when you actually stay friends with an ex.

Post: It is BS, no one breaks up with another simply because they think that their partner 'is too good for them'. Nonsense. Do you still suffer from self esteem issues? Or were those HIS issues? Either way move along already it's been two years.

I think guys say that when they've messsed you over already; they feel guilty and you didn't find out. Either that or he's just not mature enough to be in a committed relationship with you at this time. Valentines Day is coming up soon. That's usually when my X's start calling.3 more weeks and counting. X#1 just called. Get prepared girls because soon you will hear more bullshit then you've ever heard before. LOL

I really like this answer. and yea don't remind me that V day is comming! Our anniversary (for dating) was on Valentine's day =(. Yea sometimes he acts like he's still really into me-but I'm really tired of these games. I should just forget about him. I guess he must of cheated on me for him to be acting like that. BS... there isn't really such a thing as "too good for someone" in the first place but if you love someone and that expression came to mind you'd just be really greatful that she/he chose you. NOT use it as a lame excuse to finish it!

The only circumstance where this might make sense is if he's going through a hard time and he feels like he's dragging you down or something, or if he cheated and can't tell you, etc.? x
