Who suffer more in a divorce? Men or women?

I always think that women suffer more in a divorce.However,from what I have read in our local newspapers,it seems that there are more cases of men than women committing suicide when the marriage ends with a divorce.What do you think?

It really depends, my piao liang pengyou, on which country you are in. In many third world countries the women definitely have it worse off in divorce. Lot of those countries, they don't even get visitation rights unless the ex husband agrees, let alone custody of the children. Division of assets favor the man, since he tends to be the primary earner. And the stigma of a divorced woman in those countries is BAD. Hen huai de!

In Europe, I've heard it's more equitable, even some countries impose time limits on alimony, not until the woman remarries.

In the USA, it's typically the men who suffer more. Asset division favors the woman, she gets the kids, and the house, he gets none of the equity even if he was the only one who had the mortgage and made payments. On top of that, the man must pay alimony forever, well until the woman remarries, so, guess what, the woman cohabitates instead, so he must keep paying alimony. And child support payments are a joke, the woman gets another big check every month. I know several divorced dads who found their kids borderline neglected, while the ex wife indulged herself in opulent luxuries on the child support payments. Because I am an American, I voted A.

I'm going to argue that in addition to losing money and children, men also suffer more emotionally.

Women are raised to be independent, men are not. sure, we can provide for our own money, but we are pretty much worthless at cooking, keeping the house, managing the kids time tables, managing our own time tables, dressing ourselves, keep living healthy and most important: moving on. I know ot's popular to think that all men are cold bastards, but in my experience it is the women that are sleeping with another within weeks.

If one person is more attached still, they suffer more. That can be the man or the woman. Also, people with less resiliant personality types, a lack of a support system or who are facing other issues like a pre-existing mental illness, addiction, etc.

Men are more likely to commit suicide across the board, though women are more likely to attemp suicide. There are lots of theories about this, including men's testosterone (the "act now" chemical), men being more likely to own a firearm rather than having to use a method that doesn't kill immediately, like slit wrists or drugs, etc.

Also, although women file for divorce more often ... that doesn't mean that women are the catalyst behind the divorce most of those times. In my own family, for instance, my father was having an affair he refused to end, but also made my mother be the one who filed for divorce. I've seen this in several marriages ... so I know that these stats are skewed.

Guys:

- lose more financially as they tend to make more and alimony laws go by who makes more

- lose the children thanks to patriarchal gender roles of 'woman = caregiver & man = provider'. That 'it's a woman's job to raise the children' and 'what's truly important for women is children' notion tends to bite back during divorce.

I think that's likely a case of guys being more successful with suicide.

Statistics show more gals than guys attempt suicide however guys commit more suicide because they use more successful methods like guns versus pills.

Gonna say men on this one. Women are more likely to get the kids, women are more likely to get the larger share of possessions, men are more likely to come into the relationship with some sort of possessions/wealth so more "risk"

If were assuming joint custody+prenup+100% split in possessions it's harder to distinguish.

everyone is going to suffer in most divorces , it will sometimes depend who has a better job or who is able to move on the fastest as to who suffers least . if one has a better paying job they won't suffer as much financially

Men suffer more. The divorce court most of the time is almost always biased in favor of the woman. Men usually get more of their assets taken from them and lose most custody of the children (if the couple has kids).
