Boyfriend likes to pick at me

sometimes my boyfriend picks out my flaws as a joke. I'm not insecure but it gets annoying when he points out the mole on my forehead almost every time I see him. he also makes jokes sometimes when we are about to have sex like "keep your shirt on" and it is a huge turnoff. I'm not going to make a huge deal about this, but what I don't get is that his ex was very overweight and unattractive, which isn't a bad thing but he also says she was a bitch and treated his family and friends bad. I am not overweight nor unattractive and I have always been respectful and kind girlfriend. my friends tell me that I must be a trophy for him in comparison with his ex. so why does he find the need to pick me apart?

This is a tactic some men use when they are insecure but at the same time are very controlling. Sounds like you might be in the beginning stages of a controlling relationship. He will tell you how mych he loves you and 10 minutes later he's picking out your flaws and saying how lucky you are to have a guy like him. Basically he wants to destroy hour confidence and self esteem so you won't leave him. Relationships like this have a tendency for turning physically abusive. Also don't take his word for it about his ex, track the girl down and ask her yourself. If it turns out that you may be in a controlling relationship then run as far and as fast as you can. These people are toxic and will do nothing but hurt you.

cause he's a prick, who is scared to lose you to another guy... he is the one who feels insecure about himself and by placing doubts into your brain, your bound to question if your attractive or not and more likely to stay with him out of fear you can't get better... I say dump him and find a guy who loves and respects you and tells u, you're beautiful and makes you feel good about yourself and not some prick who puts you down...

He's insecure? I don't know but your best bet is to tell him to cut it the hell out. =)

I had an ex who used to do that. She actually pointed out flaws that I didn't know I had :(

I wouldn't have thought he is doing it on purpose, he is probably joking and doesn't realize it upsets you. I think you should mention it and ask him to stop saying hurtful things about your appearance.

I would guess that he has no idea how to act around a girl he really likes, and seeing as he went from a girl like his ex to a girl like you (based on your description) he is probably just scared of losing you and has no idea how to cope with it, so he picks on you because he is insecure. (Theory)
