Well, it does not tell me that the guy is cheap, but it does tell me he's quite money conscious and very attentive to his spending. Now, do you like that?
If you want a guy who doesn't care about money very much, that's not your guy. If you want a guy who is very (perhaps too) careful with his finances, maybe he's a good match. Depends on your taste in people I guess.
I was once in a relationship with a very frugal girl. Upsides were she never wanted expensive presents and she balanced the books really well and saved money, she never expected a fine from me. Downsides were I always got cheap presents and convincing her to go on a nice holiday or meal was like pulling teeth. To each their own.
Well as a guy I’d be so pleased she paid st all it would be fine.
I discussed with some other guys once in particular about one guy whether he could use one (like a buy one entree get one free deal or whatever).
My best guess is that you might pull it off if you present it as the plan up front. If you just take someone and then slap down the coupon it seems brutal. If you initially say “I actually have a buy one meal get one for XYZ if you want to try there” you might pull it off. Basically you can’t act like you were trying to be suave buying dinner on the cheap. But you might pull off “oh I’ve been wanting to use this deal at this place with someone are you interested”
It’s perfectly fine.
We’re all fighting to survive, living paycheck to paycheck and if my date had a coupon like 30% or 50% off on everyone’s order than we’re great!
We get to eat more and spend more time together. We save money and we have fun!
I think it’s a great idea, I’m going to look for coupons honestly...
If anything that would impress me more, being frugal and not trying to impress me by spending all of this money is way better than throwing cash around.
I would be upset that he got his hands on a coupon that somehow slipped my hands. I like to think that my coupon game is on point.

Perfectly fine, why not save money if you can? i don't have issues with it.
I use coupons every time I can. Absolutely fine if my date did too.
I find it very positive when a woman is good with money, and saving money where possible is part of that. That would be one instance in which I don't mind her "paying"- it would impress me mightily if she found a way for both of us to save money.
I've never had a woman even offer to pay her share on a first date, so that's an insanely fantastic scenario in my mind. I've dated a lot of coupon users, so it probably wouldn't surprise me (other than not having to pay), and it definitely wouldn't bother me. If it was a tiny value, like 25 cents or something, I'd probably tease her a bit, if the date had otherwise gone well.
I'm curious about the pink opinions here. A survey of this exact issue has been done, and women were basically split on the idea. However, the survey takers followed up with a social experiment in which every single woman reacted negatively to a guy using a coupon on the first date.
Its literally saving money so whats the big deal? Would you prefer a expensive place that he can later use as leverage to call you a gold digger? (And this could go both ways guy or girl and even if its a lesbian relationship.)
But my honest opinion is I'd rather focus on is this girl a great person themselves than whats in their wallet/bank account. And I got no issues with being thrifty. The quality isn't in how much money is shoveled your way during a relationship. So much as what is done out of love and endearment.
If I took a girl out, and she was like "lets go here!" and then when I go to pay she throws down a coupon that lessens the bill...
I would find that to be 1) Hilarious and 2) Super charming and cute and 3) A great sign that this person isn't gonna bleed me dry
Being frugal is something I thought a woman would like. Things to ask yourself... Was the date good? Was it something you enjoyed? Would you rather your date spend extra money?
If you think saving money on something you enjoyed was cheap then that is fairly immature. Now if he's ordering off the dollar menu at McDonald's, ok that's bad. But a good date for a good price sounds like a perfect time. Maybe they'll use that saved money to get you something else? There's a lot of maybes and what ifs but I think a coupon should be more than ok.
Some of us don't make a lot of money, and live simple, and saving a couple dollars, is GREAT, anywhere!! It tells me she is being careful with money, and not looking for someone with a lot of money!!
But, the tip should be based on the total, BEFORE the coupon, so the server (maybe worse off than us) doesn't get screwed out of a few dollars!!
Hahahah lol oh dear
Once I had a coupon for a jazz bar and it was awesome. BUT, im no fool lol
I came there 2 hours before and set it all up with the host. Gave him the coupon and reserved a seat before hand. Told him it was a date and prefer for it to be smooth
She had no idea lol and just figured i paid but in fact it was a coupon i got half off for the whole night
It was worth like $150 though. So we had wine, dinner, and the show
Which was sexy af i might say
It was a great night
You i wouldnmt pull out a coupon on a first date with a girl i barely no. Fuck no lol
Not guna be that guy 😂
First impressions dude. Ill never get over that if i show her that day 1 😂
This one here is a smart one, she took the time to research the place were gonna eat at.
Found a coupon that will lower the price of eating out, and used her resource intelligently to save money.
my opinion.
She's a keeper.
It would tell me he Financially Conservative, doesn't spend foolishly. Now if he took me to McDonald's and used a coupon then there'd be a problem. Just so you know it wouldn't be the coupon as the issue it would be that he took me to MickeyDs LOL.
Seriously though, he or she is wise in how they spend their money and that I can Respect.
The impression it would make on me depends on what I know about my date prior to that point. I'm all for coupons in general, but it does seem a little un-glamorous for a first date, when taken at face value. I'd also expect to pay my share/half of the meal, so how does that factor in with the coupon? That would make an impression on me as well. For example, if he shares the coupon with me so it covers part of my meal as well, that seems generous. If he uses the coupon to cover his portion only, that seems more stingy and a little rude.
I don't care at all. Using cupons when you have them it's smart in my eyes. Otherwhise I feel like you would be throwing away money. I honestly don't have a lot of money so sometimes I want to pay for the date and use the cupons I have, for example in the movie theater. And I can only hope it doesn't bother them as it doesn't bother me
It literally doesn't make a fuck to me. That's less money spent and hopefully a nicer tip for the server. I'm a server so I always make sure whoever I'm with leaves a good tip, unless they were just completely shitty.
I think it would be silly to feel offended if your date used a coupon becuase at the end of the day they still took you out and took care of the payment. Also it could mean they are good with their money not just growing it all away Willy nilly you know.
I actually did this on a first date but, there was a twist. This new restaurant was having a grand opening and sent everyone within shouting distance got a $10.00 off bill of $50 or more. So I asked this lady I'd been chasing out saying " they're opening a new 5 star.. etc" and finished by saying I have a $10.00 off coupon. Well we on and became an item for a good two years.
I don't understand why people would be offended by that? Being responsible with money is something to admire. But I mean, my first date opinions are typically different from the status quo. Like I don't even get offended if someone asked me to pay my half of the meal. I think that's totally fair & you're a spoiled fucking brat if you decline.
Rather be cheap than act all richy-rich to impress people. The only time I would say cheapness on dates is distasteful is when they would make me cover all costs & pull the "Forgot my wallet..." bullshit.
To me is comes off as smart. The more money saved, the more you can do. Why spent a lot on a meal when you can save, take the extra you save and spend a little more on something else to keep the night going.
I'm a coupon shopper so I'd be smitten. In fact, if I had a coupon, I'd offer it to him if he was going to pay. I love a sale, a love a deal, a love a coupon and a guy who knows how to cut corners on spending is my kind of guy.
It just seems intelligent. I'm not going to be offended. I understand it might seem "cheap" or "not special", but if they didn't want to go on a date with me, they wouldn't have come. The date and interactions are the important parts, not how you paid for the food.
That said, I'm a man, so if someone else is prepared to pay on a first date, I would assume they aren't interested, don't want to become indebted to me and just gave me a "pity date" to be nice.
Why would anyone have a problem with coupons? I guess some stubborn people might be too proud or whatever to use a coupon because they probably think only poor people use coupons. I'm certainly not hurting for money, but I'll still use a coupon any chance I get. I don't see being frugal and smart with money as something to be looked down upon.
I'm a believer that the first date should be split as to avoid any expectations. Even thinking along those lines, using a coupon on a date is cheap, either for the fact they are trying to save a couple of bucks, or you're at a place that accepts coupons
especially if the place has good food it means they are smart with money while still enjoying the good things life can offer
I think: Nice job. Way to save some money
My SO and I used Groupon on our honeymoon and got basically every meal half off. It was awesome
I like to buy gift cards at Costco which effectively gives me 20% off at some very nice restaurants. If my date was using those, I'd admire it as it is something I do myself. If I did it and my date was wise to the fact and showed a negative reaction, there is no next date, unless she's buying.
If it's done at some cheap restaurant I can see it being a turnoff no matter what.
Well it actually depends, if the guy has money and does that, it's kinda tacky and I wouldn't like it. but after many dates it'd be fine. I wouldn't reject a guy for it, but I mean, when a guy invites you dinner is like a gift , it's very sweet of him, and if he uses a coupon , he got himself some help, if he really needs it , okay. If he has the money and doesn't need the coupon, it's not okay for me..
It's a smart play. Saving money is a sign of maturity and responsibility, any man or woman who has a problem with someone else saving money, whether they need to or not, should stick to those people that blow money on ridiculous things and end up broke.
id be paying for my meal anyhow, and id think it was cool he didn't mind using coupon in front of me. its nice to make a good effort but the problem with dating is people pretend to be what they are not. id like knowing he uses coupons irl. and why not use them.
i think i would not want to date a person who had a problem with it.
I wouldn't like it, but not for the reasons other people put. I feels as though coupons are annoying and time consuming for the employees.. It's not like I'm completely opposed-ive used them before, and I'm normally okay with others using them. If anything, i would just feel a little bad if the employee had a swamp of people and was struggling with that.
To me in the beginning of the realtionship is seems like "wow if they didn't have a coupon we'd be eating at the china buffet..."
It comes. off as cheap.
However once in a relationship, it slowly becomes "do we have a gift card or coupon? No? Lets eat somewhere else."
If my boyfriend took me out to a place and had a coupon, I would be totally fine w/it. A coupon on the 1st date would bug me for the fact that it means he picked the place only because he has a coupon. I'm all for saving money, but that is super tacky, I'd rather split the bill then have him pay w/a coupon. I'm not a gold digger, but I've dated cheap men and their behavior is extremely odd and selfish.
Financial responsibility is hot. Why spend money he doesn't have to on a date with a stranger? If he's smart he'll save his hard earned money whenever possible.
I don't think it's bad to save money but I would wonder if that was the only reason they chose that restaurant... like did he look through a coupon book to choose a place to take me? That would give me a weird feeling.
Smart man in my eyes. Why would you want to pay more for something when you can pay less? to Impress?
It's financially responsible to bring a coupon on any outing, if you have one. It's YOUR money, not theirs, if you're the one paying on the date. If you are trying to brag about money, or are attracted to those that brag about money, then coupons obviously don't work for you. Money is a resource that can be difficult for a lot of folks to get any reasonable amount of.
Money is a product of my labor. I will use such wisely.
The voting is obviously lying. We damn well know that on the first date if the person you’re eating with decides to say “I’ll pay” and proceeds to open up there wallet/purse and a f****** stack of coupons pops out you’re gonna think twice about that person.
Haha that's cute. Also why would I be offended?
It's not like I am her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II and I need proper high services.
Its nothing wrong to get a discount for food or any item. I would ask if he got an extra coupon for me too 😋
I would think that he’s thoughtful, planned out and not cheap, just conscientious of his money which are good things.
lol he uses a coupon on the first date? LETS BE CHEAP TOGETHER 😂
If you with a guy or girl who is offended by that, you need to re-evaluate what makes them worth it in life. She isn’t there to contribute to your success anymore... she’s just there to use you and take your resources. I would be wary of anyone who didn’t like this idea!
I prefer it, it saves money. Financial issues today have no place in a relationship. Most marriages are destroyed due to pettiness of money.
"That guy is smart", why spending money when you can have it for free? To me it would be a bonus point. It mean he know how to manage his money and doesn't spend it stupidly.
I wouldn't be bothered by it
It doesn't come off as cheap and I'd rather date a guy who saves his money than a guy who freely spends it
That's a smart man!!! It shows he is money-conscious.
It would be great actually, as they're conscious about their financial status as well.
Well... someone came prepared😂
Lol but I don't see it as being a problem at all.
I don’t see why that would be a problem.
Though I typically insist on paying for myself until we’re exclusive so I probably wouldn’t benefit from that.
I think then its a smart move on his side
I see it as something really good
I REALLY don't care if he is paying with toy plastic coins or gold bars... as far as I don't have to go for a dinner or coffee. I want something inventive!
Surprise me with the dating idea, not the coupons lol
Not offended, why pay full prize if you could aave money? It would only show she at least know how to not be stupid and waste money which could have been saved to something else like a 2nd date?
I'd be outraged that my date is being economic, how dare they not throw money down the toilet on things they don't have to.
It means he/she paid less for stupidly expensive food.
They know the value of money. Smart person. No shame in that.
No problem at all, as long as she's a nice person I'm happy <3 <3 :D
I might feel sorry for the girl. I'm soft like that. Certainly not offended.
A person took you out to dinner and paid for your food and time. So maybe that person is just good with money? Unless it's one of those extreme couponers then no.
When I think about extreme couponers I think of a person spending 1 hour a day cutting coupons and filing them in binders. I also think of them saying "we can't buy this if we don't have a coupon". Sure saving a few bucks at a fancy place would be nice. But don't be obsessive about them.
She's a money-saving person, financially shrewd, smart, plans ahead. There's nothing unattractive about saving money like that. She's a keeper!
Well, I usually split the bill on first dates, so I couldn't care less how he pays his half.
How do you find men that let you go Dutch. All the men I go out with insist on paying for the whole night out, so I sneak money in their pockets or car console LOL
@Moonchild714 Maybe men here are less traditional than where you are? Or maybe I just date less traditional guys than you do.
Yeah, it's has to be. Because I'm a modern woman and would rather pay for my portion. Equality women want.
@Moonchild714 Well, I'm sure there are men like that where you live.
I'm sure there are too, I have to broaden my horizons. Better watch what I ask for LOL
@Moonchild714 I'm sure it will be fine. :) Do you usually date older than yourself?
I use to lately it's been much younger but still same mindset. Three are grandsons of three men I use to date LOL smh
@Moonchild714 Haha nice.
Smart guy. It wouldn't bother me. He's saving money.
I honestly don't see anything wrong with it. This actually happened but I was the one that told him about having coupon on my phone.
