I mean I carry a Swiss army knife everywhere I go because those things are bloody useful. A regular knife I'm not so sure about, but you're probably fine, if he's the sort that would lash out at you in anger he'd probably do just as much damage with his fists.
You're safe. Trust when I express to you that you have nothing to worry about. Have you ever heard the saying, "don't bring a knife to a gun fight?" Plus, there's so many other uses knives can prove resourceful (i. e. cutting the seatbelt in an accident, a weapon to prevent an stray animal attack, or as a weapon against an assault, etc.). So, I think you shouldn't concern yourself further with what makes him, him; you know?
When I dated my first girlfriend I conisdred something similar, not necessarily for my protection but for hers. She'd get catcalled by nut jobs and then it'd fall on me to stand up for her, that of course went sideways a few times, I never had a knife though
Don't worry, my boyfriend carries a pocket knife and he just uses it for work and cutting things open when we don't have scissors... it comes in handy sometimes.
Nope, should be worried, he's a smart man. I carry a knife and a gun, whenever I'm not sleeping, in the shower, or in the pool. I even have them when I dive, you never know when a shark, or someone with bad intentions will show up.
Are you talking about a small pocket knife, or something larger, more deadly? It is concerning that he said you ought to carry a knife. No, not everybody has a temper, at least not a volatile one.
I wouldn't worry. Just because someone carries a knife with them, doesn't mean they always have evil intentions. I've used my knife in class to remove staples, and I use it to fix things around my ranch like garden hoses.
Are we talking like a pocket knife or like a Bowie knife? Cause there is practical reasons for carrying a knife, it's a tool after all. Maybe he uses it a lot for work.
Nah sounds like he just uses it as a tool or safety. Most guys have one. And most guys if their gonna lash out their gonna use their hands not a knife. I’d say still be careful just don’t be paranoid.
You don’t need to be worried I carry a knife with me everywhere I go to. It’s a comfort thing probably. I have mine just in case I get into trouble and I need to defend myself. Maybe that’s why he carried his around
It doesn't sound weird to me. Where's he from? I grew up in the south and there it's pretty normal for men to carry knives. He is right, you really never know when you might need a knife. A good pocket knife is pretty handy.

Seems fine. I'd still be cautious tho because he COULD take his temper out on you.
Once that happens, the VERY first time that happens, leave his ass.

You're reading too far into it. It's good have. In the right hands, it acts as a utility and a weapon in self defense.

It’s useful for sharpening pencils, cutting string, opening boxes, etc. a pocket knife is not a grenade. I personally wouldn’t be worried.

Knives have roughly 1549874 uses not related to violence as well. They're just a useful all-around tool to have on hand.

I have a model 70 in my truck, so you'd really be twitchy around me.
I have a Marlin Model 60 just chilling in my linen closet, so she'd be twitchy too.
@Matt57 I want one of those with a 4x scope.

Looks alright but still a word of caution. Stay warned
Stats show most bad stuff happens with your own weapon.. or so says my limited memories on such.
A pen can be a weapon. A knife is just a tool.
@daddysir77 Car keys up the nose.. mmm mhhhmm
I've hurt myself more o. Cupboard doors than any knife.
