Public or in Industry?
- +1 y
In an industry, I work at a law firm. Are you an accountant as well?
- +1 y
Yeah, at a software company.
- +1 y
Do you like bring an accountant? I mean a profession in the end of the day is only there to pay your bills. It isn’t the only determining factor towards an individuals attributes. I would never do public accounting, not worth it unless I plan to become partner.
- +1 y
I like it for the most part. I actually did it as a career changer at age 40, so public would never have been an option for me anyway (and it is not as big in Germany as it is in the US). I also do some translations for my company, so there is some variety in my tasks.
- +1 y
I like it too tbh I’ve been doing it for about five years and it pays the bills as I’ve mentioned, my duties are pretty easy (I work in tax), I’m not really busy all year round lol. It’s a bunch of excel mainly and during my free time I get to enjoy other things. What did you do prior? I must say that most men who work in the office setting are a bit strange and slightly socially awkward but other than that it’s fine. I’m usually pretty good with socially awkward people because I’m pretty easy to talk to so it’s not an issue for me lol. Yes, I agree it is big in the US.
- +1 y
Well, I used to do satellite and telecommunications, then I worked as a financial analyst before getting into accounting. I do management accounting and we're privately held, so there is only financial reporting for creditors and Investors.
- +1 y
Ah okay I see. Yes, the company I work for is a partnership do we just do whatever the partners want. Do their taxes, PowerPoints, pay bills etc.
- +1 y
That doesn't sound so bad. Better than public with those 50-60 hour work weeks when you striving to make partner.
- +1 y
*you're
- +1 y
Yeah it’s not I’m pretty happy where I work. The director can be a pain the you know what sometimes but I deal with him and just do whatever he needs me to do (obviously nothing that would make me unprofessional). Would you date an accountant considering you’re one yourself?
- +1 y
Definitely. There is no reason not to, and it would help with networking.
+1 yI am an accountant myself. So, yeah? XD

+1 yI voted "other" for maybe. Accountants are intelligent but have a lot of stress and very busy schedules so I would be considered about their physical and mental health, their stress levels in life, their ability to not take their anger out on me, and their ability to make time for a wife and children and house chores.
22 Reply- +1 y
That's primarily for those working in public accounting. If you're an accountant for a private Company or a Government agency, you are much more likely to work a Standard 40 hour week.
- +1 y
Then yes - I would probably date one.
+1 yOf course! Profession/career is not that important to me (unless it’s illegal or unethical in my opinion). It’s more important that my partner find satisfaction/fulfillment in that area of their life.
14 Reply- +1 y
Yeah, well, sometimes accounting can be rather soul-destroying (more so on the public accounting side, I think).
- +1 y
How so? Could you explain further?
- +1 y
Working a lot of hours (and an up-or-out mentality), plus the content of the work wears a lot of people down.
- +1 y
That’s makes sense. I see a lot of people worn down in my profession. Especially when the negative aspects outweigh the rewarding side.

+1 yYes lol, my new boyfriend is a chartered accountant.
11 Reply Is there some negative stereotype of accountants I'm aware of? Seems like a perfectly decent and respectable profession to me, and I'd find it quite convenient if she could do my taxes. :-D
15 Reply- +1 y
Well, some people think we're boring, but, for the most part, no. I just wanted to pick a profession where the answers might not be so obvious in one direction or the other.
- +1 y
In which country? Management accounting is pretty respected in Japan from what I hear.
+1 yNo good reason to turn down an accountant... unless I spend money irresponsibly AND I don't want to change
13 Reply- +1 y
Yeah, that would drive him bonkers.
- +1 y
Especially if he does cost accounting
- +1 y
I would love to have someone as fiscally attuned as I am... not many folks know how to balance a checkbook anymore with the debit cards running rampant
... and why not? what does the profession have to do with what your feelings are for that person?

Nothing, of Course. Some find us boring, though.
+1 ySure. Wasn't Neo, from the Matrix, an accountant before becoming "the One."?
+1 yDepends? Are they going to do my taxes?
14 Reply- +1 y
Depends if you want to have them know all that financial Information, yeah. Most Accountants don't deal with taxes, though.
- +1 y
Tells you what i know about accountants i always assumed that was a majority of what accountants did. Yeah i wouldn't care if she knew my financial situation. I got nothing to hide.
- +1 y
There are others that can do taxes, e. g,, Enrolled Agents in the US. At your age, you can do your own (should easy).
- +1 y
I do do my own. My response was tongue-n-cheek.
I don't see being an accountant as being a positive or a negative. Then again i look at a job/career as what someone does not who they are. I think people who judge people by their occupation are not very nice people.
Being an accountant doesn't seem like something that would put me off them.
