When a man calls you wholesome?

Hi all I’ve recently gotten close to this guy I’ve been chatting to for a while and tonight he said “you’re so nice too me, you’re wholesome and I appreciate your kind words”
I understand that he is saying that he appreciates what I said but doesn’t it come across very friendly instead of interested?

No, it's a real compliment and wouldn't rule out him being interested.
