How do you keep a guy interested in texts?

I met a guy recently, and we've been talking for a couple days. I like him, but his messages don't really give me anything to go on. I ask a question and response is like 4-5 words long. It's starting to get boring. Like I asked him what he likes to do and he said 'Travel and workout'. There's no detail. I asked what he was doing and he said 'Going to a parade'.


Don't get it especially since he asked me for my number so why does it feel like I'm doing all the pursuing here? I'm not good at flirting or anything so I don't know what to say or do. I've waited a few hours before I messaged him back because I'm running out of things to say because he doesn't talk. What else should I say?

I’m just not going to pursue it. It’s been 24 hours and you’re already not showing interest so I’m just not going to waste my time. My last message to him was 2:15 and it’s 10:06 now

One thing I learned very quickly with guys and texting as well as online dating is that you cannot force a connection - in person or digitally. Eventually it will get stale no matter who you're talking to. It could be your soulmate, but at some point you'll prefer face to face and will know enough about each other that the excitement of talking to anew person will wear off and you'll just be happy and content with one another.
If there is a connection you'll naturally just chat back forth. You'll find something to go off of no matter what and if the guy is truly interested he'll get putting his best foot forward and be proactive with the conversation. If he isn't trying to actively keep the conversation going when you haven't even met yet, then he's really not that interested or is talking to multiple people and is keeping things surface level for a reason. When you're the ONLY one someone is talking to and they're really into it, you'll know.
The key is to be yourself, be quirky, let your personality show through your texting style as much as possible. Stand out from all the "Hi" "how are you" and "what's up?" people. Be flirty, quirky and fun with your texting. Things I've used if they ask how I am or how my day is would be along the lines of "I need a beer IV drip and a back massage STAT, wanna join?" instead of "it was good, yours?" because really where is the second response going? The guy has NOTHING to work with and you'll just go back and forth with how your day was with no substance.

Some guys... really suck at texting, lol. I once tried to pursue a guy that was the same way: he would send me these short, sweet replies via text, or barely reply at all. And I was like, "Are you interested in me or what?" and he warned me he hates texting, especially long ones (which I was bad about doing, haha)

But when I got him on the phone or we spoke in person? He wouldn't shut up, lol. Ask him can you meet up in person, call him, or ask him what does he want to talk about: he might need a jumpstart to get him to talking more.
If he's really bad at texting, you might just want to keep conversation short and sweet and see if you can interact with him in person more to see if he changes.

No! that is unacceptable! If someone is not willing to invest the appropriate time and interest in you, do not chase them. I would give the exact same advice if you were a guy. Here is what I think you should do: Ask an open question (something like "what happened on your last trip?") if he gives a closed answer without building on the conversation (like "nothing interesting"), reply "cool". Do not text again until he texts back with something of substance.
If he responds to "cool" with something like "yeah", and you have the time for stupidity, send him a "k" and respond to further empty replies with bland acknowledgements like this until one of you is bored.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, I just don't appreciate this kind of behaviour. I think I'd rather be ghosted than play this kind of stupid game with someone.

You can't base a potential relationship off how well you communicate through text. Some dudes just use it as a means to communicate and the real interest is displayed when you actually sit down and talk to the person. If he acts the same way face-to-face, then he's not interested. If you communicate more when you're together, then maybe he just doesn't like texting.

Some guys just really suck at texting. My boyfriend is exactly like that, I barely ever get a full sentence out of him via texting. Therefore it doesn't necessarily mean that he's not interested in you. Try to call him when he's free instead or meet up and talk in person.
