I find it odd that 50 year old men are at their peak at least in the U. S. If desirability is based on financial security and/or education that would make sense.
If desirability is based on health then it makes less sense. I'm not saying

that there aren't healthy men at 50 but the U. S. eating lifestyle has created a situation where a lot of men (and women) who are physically unhealthy due to being overweight. Women want partners who are going to have a higher chance of living longer not make it to 60 or 65 and die.

Now men in other regions like Asia are on the whole are eating healthier so I could see how their desirability might still be high later as long as they aren't smokers.

Men in their 40s and 50s tend to be more confident so that would increase their desirability. It just comes with age. Women have it too but there is more of a stigma when it comes to women aging to. It's the I don't give a blank what other people think point a lot of us get to.

I noticed that the 4 cities chosen were all northern states which might not reflect the country as a whole. In the area I live in Asian males have a bit less problem dating I think at least if they can actually meet the woman in person. I see quite a bit of interracial dating between Asian men and non Asian women in our area which can be observed in areas that are predominantly Asian American.

Logically it would make sense that a woman from 18 to 30 or 35 would be the most desirable. If you look at physical youthful beauty and by 30 many have gone to college and/or are established in their careers. Oddly in my late 40s was when I started getting more attention. It was the oddest thing. It wasn't something I was seeking because I was married at the time. It continued into my early 50s.

Desirability can be the vibe of financial success and/or education as well as physical beauty. It, also, can be health, being in shape, confidence, being a fun, happy or kind person. So much more goes into desirability.

I mean, I'll agree that I'm getting uglier with each passing day. I never realised that as soon as I hit my 20s I would start going downhill. I was always excited to reach my 20s because I thought I'd start getting sexier... it was the total opposite. You have to kind of except that as reality. I feel lucky to have a guy who loves me and will hopefully still find me attractive when I'm in my 50s. Women have a ticking biological clock, the older they get the harder it is for them to have kids. Men will never have to worry about that, they can have kids at any age. It's better for women to settle down as soon as possible, but men don't really have a time limit. However, as a 25-year old, I would never date someone over 40. Like, I don't want to live only ten years with the guy and then start finding him old and ugly when I'm only 35 and could do better. It's never a good idea to date anyone with more than a ten year age gap.

Women's desirability peaks far higher than men's peak - a woman in her late teens to mid-20s is almost universally desirable, and during these years, she (on average) can get almost any (single) man. But as you can see, the lines cross right around age 30, and after that age, women will never again be higher than men. Most women realize this, which is why they feel pressure to be married by their 30th birthday (a very sensible goal for those looking to marry/have a family).

Much of this is tied to biology - her ability to reproduce - as a woman's prime reproductive years are the same years that she has peak desirability. And while VERY RECENTLY we've developed ways of helping older women conceive, women having children later also leads to a higher rate of children with diseases and birth defects, so Natural Selection naturally values the earlier reproductive years much higher.

The male curve isn't based on reproductive ability, but rather on his status and resources - i. e., his ability to protect and provide for children. This is why younger men are so low on the graph - they tend to have little in the way of status or resources - while men in their 30s and 40s tend to be in their peak earning years and have had time to build some status.
Anyone who understands Natural Selection would easily have predicted these outcomes, but most people don't tie the two together on their own for some reason - some even choosing to believe (despite tons of evidence to the contrary) that "modern man has evolved beyond his instincts." The truth is that our instincts affect our behavior every single day.

That seems high. I could maybe believe that men's desirability peaks in early to mid 30s but 50 seems high unless our attractiveness is like entirely based on wealth which I don't really believe. I kinda think the notion that men get more desirable with age is just wishful thinking and that unfortunately women always have an advantage over men when it comes to sex/dating regardless of age.

That's is a lie from hell. Nobody should desire used to be because of your looks, that's why a lot of people can't find proper mate, or get stuck with the wrong kind of man because it's seeking validation for the. Any guy try to date me because of my body on my physical appearance, I always rejected them, because those are the kind of guy that just wants to use you for sex anyway. Person actually wants to get to know you as somebody who sees everything about you. Never rush into dating somebody you don't really know. Plus a lot of those men are already in my father's time. So it no longer counted. That generation of the Baby boomers knew how to talk, and get partners. These days people don't know what to do and are too obsessed with the internet, social media and technology.

I have not read the article, but it makes sense to me. I would expect male desirability to include wealth, hence older men are more desirable. Women have an ideal fertile window and it's better to raise kids young. Whereas for men, financial stability and maturity is more important. I'm prepared to date a man ten years older if our relationship is ideal.

Bi chick here. Here are the ages of the men for whom I have developed infatuations: 24, 30, 30, 33, 36, 42. Average age: 32.5, range: 24-42.
The ages of the women for whom I have developed infatuations: 37, 40, 43, 49, 52, 64. Average: 47.5, range: 37-64.

So my personal preferences skew in the opposite direction.
I think it's because 40+ year old women are more likely than 40+ year old men to take care of themselves.

This study you are quoting is based on a "popular free online dating service" and as such I don't think it represents the society as a whole.
Personally I feel much better about myself now than I did when I was 18.
The pool of dating in my age is a bit smaller than it was at 18, but that doesn't mean that it's impossible. And I believe that a mature man who wants a family wouldn't look for it in a teenager.
