I think some of you are getting a little hung up on the pragmatism of it - 'well I have this one, but I need this other one.' You can answer it that way if you want to, but the question is really more about the experience of each, and how you feel when you are in them. They both contain a series of questions, a sort of effort and performance, and a selling of yourself, your accomplishments, attempting to encapsulate who you are.
Would you rather go on a date, or a job interview?
I think it depends on your situation. I spend more time at work than I do with my wife. I have had 5 job interveiws in the last 2 months, im an aircraft engineer and due to a toxic work environment im looking to move into something meaningful with better prospects. I have enjoyed the interviews I have had and feedback is always welcome and something you rarely get from a date. Me and my wife still go on dates and its something we both enjoy as a couple. They both have mystery and unknowns and that can make both exciting. I now have a new position with a new company and im looking foreward to starting soon. I would say for me i enjoy the time with my wife more than an interveiw when we are together. We love and care for each other and we are better people together. A job is just that a job. Can always find another but my wife is forever.
Hey, by the way, how did you deal with the "toxic environment" truth of the matter, when being interviewed? Were you honest about that, or did you skip over it, or re-word it?
@AmandaYVR I'm an honest person, so I told them the truth. My job security had been threatened on 2 occasions at least. The toxic environment unfortunately is a long story essentially my general manager and hangar manager have left for another company and took about 5 members of staff with them. Leaving me as the only full time member of staff in the hangar. Which you can imagine has got the board of directors dander up. As much as i feel bad for them i have been offered pay rises by to have them taken away a week later they have tried to remove holiday from me and asked in the past for a pay cut even though I was close to minimum wage anyway as they were supposed to be paying for my examinations to become a licenced engineer. So I am moving back to working on cars, I prefer aircraft but I need out.
I never thought about this before but it depends, with an interview, I can make a strong case why I should be hired with 1 interview where the company may be interviewing 15+ other candidates. With a girl, it's tougher to make a case after the first date where she says you are now my boyfriend. The job is my livelihood, it can provide an opportunity where I can travel, meet other people around the world, live in my own place in the downtown core of a city so I think the interview is best. Then again, I will take my own personal experiences where I felt like I did very well during the first interview but never got it. I remember a few attractive girls from my past who wanted to meet me but I never bothered, so who knows what would have happened had I agreed because right now I am single. I will always value love and a relationship or money but you need money to live of course. Final verdict is this - if it's a girl where we were great friends and there was chemistry there and I know that if she goes out on a date she will like me more and things can progress to a relationship, then I will choose her over the interview.
If you don't want to be a leach in life, then you need a job whereas you don't need a date or a relation.
It is a matter of setting the right priorities in life. Since I am studying in order to be independent from sponsors in my later life, I do prioritize a job and, de facto, a job interview.
A job interview, even if the outcome is negative can still bear something positive because it can give you a reason to improve yourself.
On the other hand, being in a relation, thus having successfully been on a date, is very difficult to keep if you don't have a job. People are very materialistic and if I read the numerous replies on questions about dating people without or little income, it is clear that they are in a clear disadvantage.
A date cannot always buy food, a date does not always sponsor your holidays, a date does not pay your bills month for month.
Date. The women I meet tend to occur by change offline so there isn’t months of texting with a few called sprinkled in. Typically we see each other a few days later or even same day and go off on some adventure. In other words, they tend to be damn fun! In contrast and with only one exception, net dating seemed entirely mundane. Again, with one exception, the personality type I seem to attract offline versus online seems to at complete odds with one another. I am not saying the online women I seem attract aren’t attractive (They are too) - don’t misinterpret this. Just that they have a personality that is out of tune with what I normally attract and enjoy offline.
Anyway, definitely a date versus a career interview.
The disconnect from net dating? Mostly because people see a photo and reach out without ever reading what the profiles says. Both sexes are guilty of this. I recall when receiving messages from dating sites I would read their bio and would immediately realize they more than likely never read my own bio. Then I would write them and point out where was vasty diverge and ask if they read my bio - most say nope. Some would say yes and would figure I would make an exception for them. Bold of them...
Then there is meeting. Dear god. What a trip that would be. Apparently some women are as guilty as some men are of misrepresenting themselves. Like a 38 year old actually being 60. I’ll never forget that. Her excuse, “men lie about their age.” Which, interestingly a women one year younger than me who I met talked my head off - I really could not get a word in and lady sat nearby could see this and kept looking over at me as if to say, “you poor man.” Anyway, she finally pauses with a question/statement, “I thought you were older than me?” She insisted I looked way younger. I get this a lot still. I went as far as showing her my license. Then she started talking my head off again about her 22 year old daughter working at a stripping place but that he daughter informed her that she herself does not strip and that she believes her because her daughter tells her everything. My lone thought there was, “Keep telling yourself that...”
That is just two examples of many. The more recent ones. Albeit now a bit ago as I abandoned intentionally meeting via the net roughly 5 years ago. The exception did sneak in strangely enough we met by chance through this nutty site - the ‘One’ exception I had preciously mentioned.
I live with man and I'm not currently looking for a job so between the two choices I'm going to go with a date This COVID19 is driving me nuts if I can't get out I'm going to have to do some sort of stay in date night. It's going to have to be something creative and send the kids early to bed or something.
I'd much rather go on a job interview. They are more predictable and I can let my skills speak for me. We already know what each other is looking for before the interview because everything is spelled out. If it does not work out, it is easier to find another one. A date is much more unpredictable and much more is at stake, namely my heart.

Lol not me. My friends a bus driver and with school being down isn’t working so I let her stay in my house in return for keeping it clean and watching my pets. I always keep chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in the house now that I got a woman there.
I'm good at both. Honestly neither bother me, in fact I just got done with three rounds of interviews with my day job for a promotion. Aced them, and am waiting for the paperwork to get done. Though I have developed a bit of social anxiety in the last 10 years or so, and haven't been on a stranger date for years and years (wife and I go out all of the time, but that doesn't count for your comparison).
Even before I saw your explanation/updates, I was thinking "what is the difference other than I get paid for one of them".
I went on an interview at which the two interviewers used verbatim questions from the web, even from "how-to" books that were 20-30+ years old!. omg. They couldn't come up with an original idea between them for pity sake. Hopefully, the conversation at a date would be a bit better than that. So, I would vote for the date!
That depends on the job interview and how much they pay and how much it interests me. Also same goes for the date, if I have a huge crush on her then screw the job interview lol. So unless the date is someone I am just interested in or barely interested in then I would choose the job interview that I like. Unless she was a crush then I would choose her instead. Which doesn't happen a lot cause I am extremely interested in you or not interested at all.
If you mean I have money so I don't need a job, then the date is a no-brainer. It's all about what you need at the time, you know. If you need a job, like it is my case right now, then the job interview, however annoying, becomes a necessity
Just comparing the two instances, if it's with the right person, I think a date shouldn't feel like an interview, and, unlike an interview, it's a very enjoyable thing
Considering I just came back from a horrible date. I could use a job interview right now. I need to work on my dating skills, or more on my dating choices. I seem to always chose someone with issues
Dating skills leads to more and better dating choices. Most guys don't practice flirting and dating so have limited options and more often than not just settle for the first girl that takes an interest in them.
That is very wise and true. And I'm over that date now and already looking for the next one with someone else. I'm not giving up. Eventually I'll be picking and choosing who I keep company
I try to make dates light, funny and easy going. But 90 percent off the time I feel like I’m on a job interview (that I’m paying to attend). I literally had one girl grill me with over 100 questions on one date.
I know exactly what you mean man. Many girls are very dry on dates, and will try pull you out of the fun flirty vibes you're created making the date fun to grill you because of their insecurities about guys.

Ladies. Give the guy A CHANCE. If he bores you maybe it’s because he’s paranoid given all complaining he hears from other women about “dbag guys”. If he is acting goofy go along with it but tell him you like to ask a few questions.
Yeah it's funny ey. Sometimes I approach girls on the street and they really appreciate being hit on outside of the club environment where you aren't just approaching because you're drunk and actually have confidence. But at the same time they then ask if I approach girls on the street often because they are insecure that they aren't the only girl lol.
If you want the best you've gotta be the best and deal with others going after the same person.
If I'm sure that I've found "the one" for me, I'm definitely going on a date. If I lose one job opportunity, I'll get another. But it's hard to find true love.
There's less pressure on a date. A job interview is only worth it if I REALLY want the job and not because I *need* the job. So that is more scrutinizing.
I'd rather go on a date for sure but I'll tell you it sure is a lot harder to find a date than a job interview🙄 so date for sure but my odds I'll find a job before a date
Since you put the two in the same question, though, I will say that some guys MAKE the first date an interview. If you do that don’t be surprised when you get ghosted lol
I used to really like to go out on dates. Even first dates were nice even if they ended badly. Just the anticipation and thinking about meeting somebody new was really exciting to me.
I find the older I get the more the dates seem like job interviews. Older women are too damn experienced and know what they want. They grill you on a date. Cheesh! t feels more like a job interview. So I date younger women. It's more like an actual date.
If it is the only dates I've been on... dates as they are always fun... If it is between dating (the who going out to get to know people) give me a job interview... I'm doing pretty well with those recently
Yeah i think what you fail to understand though is you're a woman. If you want to date it"s as simple as making yourself available and you'll get a taker. For a guy it could be a wait. I've gotten jobs before. I've yet to get a woman to say yes to a date. Lol
