Your biggest problem is that you are overthinking this entire situation. Don't think about what you are going to do step by step... it looks fake, because it is fake. Your best option is to just be you, talk like you would to anyone else that you are not trying to get in their pants. You want to get to know someone, ask about them and find out what you have in common that you would both enjoy talking about with each other. Being real will get you you much further than being laughed at for trying to pretend you are something you are not.

The thing with showing intent, is you best be excellent at the skill of tact and not come across as being creepy. By the way, if you are worried about being rejected or trying to figure out how to get rejected less... it shows and fear of rejection will get you nowhere. Because you will be rejected over and over again, before you finally find that one girl who just like you for just you.
