Tinder distance glitch or is this guy lying to me?

I matched with a guy I already know on tinder, so he isn’t a stranger and I had a crush on him in college. We’ve been chatting for a few weeks and went out and he told me he is traveling abroad for a month in Europe but wants to see me when he gets back again. He left early yesterday morning. Since yesterday morning it says he is 870 miles away (we live in the Midwest in the US).. the city where he’s going is about 4,000 miles away. ... I don’t want to ask him just yet or he’ll think I’m psycho, but for the last 24 hours his miles says 870 miles away and now I don’t know what to think. I don’t know how often he opens tinder. We message by texting, not on there. Could he have used it during his flight and just hasn’t opened it since? I’m just confused why it updated at 870 miles and then never changed.

It can be both, but you'd expect it to update to the long distance before he gets back. That will be your tell.
