Is being a “damsel in distress” attractive to men?

A "damsel in distress" is often an attractive woman. But her actually being a damsel in distress isn't really what makes her attractive. Rather it's the opposite. Her being attractive is what makes her a good damsel in distress. You basically take someone and make them universally likable. Then you put them in danger. That makes you really want the hero to succeed.

But I mean if you take it to a smaller sense, yeah there's something about helping her that just makes her... cuter? Like I used to fantasize about dating a girl who didn't think she was worth much and convincing her of how great she really is.

I know girls have something similar, because they'll often fantasize about being the girl who fixes the broken guy. In a sense, you could call that another type of damsel-in-distress fantasy. Instead of slaying real demons, you're slaying figurative ones.
