Girls, does this sound like a nice dinner idea, or does it sound like he would be trying too hard to impress?

Question

After 2 or 3 dates the guy invites the girl to dinner at his home for the first time.
He puts on nice romantic music (jazz or classical maybe) and burns a luxury candle.

Then he tries to cooks a filet mignon meal using advanced cooking techniques such as cooking on a Himalayan salt slab, using truffle salt and garlic salt.
On the side there would be asparagus and a glass of red wine.

Not only is it a great idea, I've been ADVOCATING it for quite a long time.

Let me give you a suggestion though...

You do that by deciding together either that morning or before what you want for dinner that night. It's going to be something fancy. The filet mignon is nice, but consider side dishes. However, consider something that takes a while to cook in an oven. For instance, a turkey.

Anyway, that morning, you go with her to go shopping for all the ingredients and even consider going to a place like Bed, Bath, and Beyond or Williams-Sonoma and spend coin on any decent cooking accessories that you may want or need. When grocery shopping, make sure to get good ingredients. Depending on what you cook, go to an ethnic or world market that has the best from that country. For instance, I live in Saint Louis so if I want good Italian stuff, I go to "The Hill" which is the Little Italy, in a sense, of Saint Louis. In The Hill, there is an Italian grocer, Viviano & Sons, who have all sorts of good Italian goods that I can't get anywhere else.

Once you get all the ingredients and necessary cookware, you "prep together". You know that cooking is more than just heating - you have to prepare getting all the ingredients, cutting, mixing, etc. So, while you are "The Chef", she can be "Sous Chef" and help with the prep. The nice thing about this is that you are spending time in the kitchen together like a functioning couple. It's real and you get to talk and have fun. Of course, you have to set the table once the actually cooking really occurs.

But, the whole point of this is to be together the whole day and in a useful way. Believe me that you can glean a lot of information about a person on a date like this.

Now, if you don't want to do all of that the first time, fine. I still like your idea and, if it goes well, the next time, you can do what I said.

-don’t look prettier or hotter than them.
-don’t out cook or embarrass in kitchen.
In fact:
1. press the nice table cloth-buy one.
2. use cardboard glass and plate mats protectors.-TJ Maxx home or Walmart.
3. flowers-daisy gerbers.-Trader Joe’s.
4. Run the video while you are doing it. Mess up please…frustrated…train-wreck needing help.

-IF something but as bad as you “seem to be” THEN you both either grow in kitchen skill set or starve TOGETHER.

Sounds nice to me, but not that soon... maybe wait until date 8 or 10. I wouldn't want to go to a guys place until later on in a relationship.

Plus if your more serious, then if things don't work out super great, less chance of a problem cause she is getting to know you pretty good already before hand.

If you want to learn to cook more, I suggest getting a job or side job as a prep cook. You will learn and practice knife skills while making a little cash, and can pick up knowledge about food prep on the way. I did this for about 2 years late teens early 20s and it has been an amazing skill to have through life.

The guy in the video seems like a tool to me. He is oversalting like a moron to sell his salts, especially wasting these amazing cuts of meat. He also is cooking enough to serve to about 20 people (all for himself?), and ruining what looks like close to $1K worth of meat. I hope he had a large group at least let the filming crew share. But again, totally over salted so it probably wasn't as nice as it could have been. If you are cooking on a salt slab, you don't need to sprinkle extra salt on it afterwards, it's already going to be super salty.

Another thing to help you in your culinary journey would be to be dedicated to cooking at home, at least 2-3 times a week, but more would be better, for example every other night, or all your breakfasts, something like that. Buying and prepping fresh foods will increase your skill. On the subject of ingredients, a truth I have found is that the quality of the ingredients is about 80% of cooking. You can't make a good omelette with rotten eggs, no matter how great a chef you are.

You're doing all that FOR THE THIRD DATE?

That's way too soon for a date that nice. That should be a date you do way down the road when you're way more serious about the relationship. You don't want to play around with a girl's feelings lke that, and if she sees you're rolling out the red carpet like you're doing right now and you're not VERY SERIOUS about wanting to marry her. that won't end well, because her heightened expectations you presented her with, don't match up with the reality, and surely you can't be this serious by your third date. Save that for like the 6th date at the least. That is way too much for the third date. Maybe dial it down and take her someplace nice if the relationship is something you want to pursue more closely, the third to fourth date is about the point where you're trying to figure out whether the relationship should keep going. You don't want to overwhelm her with a fancy dinner to cloud her judgement of you, even if you're just trying to make a good impression.

This whole thing is overkill. The third date is way too soon to be inviting her to your house and making gourmet food. That's a a big jump for someone, and you should only do that if you're very serious about loving her, so think it through.

As a guy who is cooking for more than 10 years as a hobby and can cook a very difficult meal from different countries, let me tell you cooking for women is always a disaster. I cook really well so food is not the issue. The problem is young girls don't like that only older over thirty or married women love that. Even though young women say so they see it as less manly and a bit weird as they hardly watch men cooking for them while growing up. Even women said that to me directly, "guys like you are only good after thirty".
I cooked meals for women on Christmas but they never showed up and went partying with friends even after she's the one wanting to eat. Girl left me after making her meals for months.
Young women want fun and thrill not boring dinner dates at home. My all other guy friends never cook a single item for their girls, yet they are incredibly successful for their girls and those girls are also happy to cook for them. If you don't believe me check out the girls' comments in this post, most of them don't want it.
Take her to bars, clubs, restaurants, long drives, and stuff. Women only appreciate men cooking when they are ready for marriage or long-married and tired of cooking for their men over and over.

Only if she's specifically mentioned that she likes steak, without you having asked her. Steak is easy to cook - what's impressive about it, especially with wagyu, is the cost, and that's not necessarily the kind of impressive you're going for on a third date.

This sounds awesome! I'd think this would be better as like a 7th or 8th date idea.
1) So that the girl is comfortable enough to come to your home, and that it won't seem like you have ulterior motives (not that you do, but *most* women are over-skeptical when it comes to that
2) Also for you! This is a lovely gesture, a few more dates in and it'll show some commitment on her end, that she's genuinely invested and would be a good match for such a nice evening

It doesn't sound too bad by itself but isn't it a bit TOO early? Also, particularly I'm not into those fancy romantic dinners like the ones in movies, but that might be my age. Anyways, girls in their 20s for example might not be interested.
