u Why should you be ashamed? Many guys would be thrilled to be dating a virgin but, frankly, some might make taking your virginity their goal simply for the thrill of the conquest.
It's less likely to be an issue as a woman, but unless he directly asks, then there's no reason to tell him in the first place.
I understand the stigma, I'm still in that position and not by choice (though I don't fall into the beliefs the crowd who have the official name for my situation hold) and I would be very wary of passing on that information if not asked about it directly. But then that's an ever shrinking possibility anyway.
Don't worry, as a girl you are far less likely to be virgin-shamed than as a guy.
