Who do you prefer to pay for dates?
Question for the guys. Do you like to pay for dates to feel masculine? Or would you prefer to share the bill? Or let the girl pay?

In a heterosexual partnership, I think that gender is no longer the determinant factor as to who is paying for what, now that women are to be considered as equal to that of men and plenty of them are even making more money than men are. The custom now is, or should be, whomever has offered the date should pay for it if there wasn't any discussion prior as to how it would be paid. Men bring up that this is still unfair because they are expected to initiate (and we are) so I've always told men that if she isn't meeting you halfway, by also showing she is interested by suggesting to spend time together, then don't bother with her. She's either showing more interest in another man or just isn't into you enough to not just sit there and judge his efforts to court her. It's a two-way street these days.

My personal set of rules, that I also suggest other men abide by, is that I will gladly pay for the first three dates. But if she doesn't pay (or at least offer to pay) for at least one of those dates, isn't paying for the next date, or isn't initiating any future dates, I move on. We are not there to do everything in a world where women are liberated and empowered.

So, if a man suggests a date, he is to prepare himself to pay for it and offer to do so, so that she knows what to expect or so that she can make a decision herself as to if that's what she wants as the outcome.
And if a woman suggests a date with a guy, she should be prepared to pay for it, and inform him of that, so that he knows beforehand what to expect similarly. Some guys might reject her paying for the date and insist they do it, because paying is still socially considered a "man thing to do" (a belief I think we need to abolish) but we like to know that she can and is willing to be fair to us. Sadly, a lot of guys still tie their value as a mate to their disposable income.

I want to pay for my food. I don't want to come off as lazy or a parasite. I already struggle with receiving gifts on holidays. It all makes me feel bad.

I'm fine with paying for my own bit but I refuse to pay for his unless it's his bday.
