Most people attract the type of partners that resemble their parents until they rewire their mental and emotional view of relationships.

After that you'll attract more healthy partners but, if you're not ready for them, you won't find them comfortable to be around because its not a familial energy. Its kinda like stockholm syndrome in the dating realm. Avoiding people who express character traits you aren't used to, even though your past was unhealthy and unsatisfying.

I'm pretty sure I have absolutely terrible taste in women. I've never thought of myself as self absorbed though. Maybe I am? I don't even know how I would go about determining something like that.

I think sincerely, for my limited experience, all people (who less, who more) is self centred, we live in an age which encourages ego centrism and self standing on a pedestal.
Sure women have less filters than men since they find satisfaction for their egocentrism because of doormat men that worship them like goddesses.
On the other hand, there are men who are completely self centred, they’re mostly found at the gym.
