I think it may have started with a basic fact: Relationships are difficult to maintain, where hookups aren't.

Girls believe its ok since they aren't religious and whats the harm of trying feminism empowerment life? You can always try something different later.
Men on the other hand, now just say hi to girls and they are ready to have sex. So why not? Then these same women want to get married when they realize hookups aren't that great except no man wants to marry that especially when girls are just giving it around like its candy.
They say it's a change in women's behaviour that allows this to happen. Men used to have to work a lot harder and engage with women over a longer term.
They also say this is counter to women's natural behaviour and goals. If so, once they work this out, I would suggest hook up culture will end.
Quick sex basically. Not everyone wants a relationship and some people are too busy to put effort into a relationship.
Being in a relationship takes work, commitment, loyalty, and dedication. Sacrifices are also made on both parties ends, so it's just simpler to have meaningless hook ups with people. Especially if the person has been dumped recently or is going through a break/divorce/split in their relationship... This is usually the time people are trying to find rebounds.
You don't need to believe in hookups to do them. It's simply a little effort move. So it's not like it replaced relationships. Because they aren't a replacement. People doesn't think long term when it comes to anything anymore. And you see what happens to the world because of it.
Liberal/democrat influences on society caused many more people to have bad morals and become too lazy to maintain a good relationship. Then once someone has an unacceptable bad past, they will NEVER be good enough for a good partner the rest of their lives.
No problem... to each their own. Reasons is what I would argue with both for and against.
They realized that relationships are a huge pain in the ass, and relationships revolve around sex (no matter what people like to claim), so getting sex without dealing with the other bullshit is preferable. No need to compromise on anything. I do what I want, you do what you want, we occasionally have a romp. All around win.
It takes care of what needs to be taken care of so we can go on our way... Sometimes you just need to get some dick to get that stress relief and you don't need the stress attached to the man attached to it. ... I'm guessing men feel similarly.
However, not having kids or a long term partner, especially once you reach 35+, is linked with a far lower satisfaction in life. It's putting a band aid on a problem which requires some thought and consideration first.

Social media and smart phones. people do not communicate face to face anymore and worse no one writes letters or even takes the time to shop for a greeting card. Technology helps but also dehumanizes us all

I think it is possible. But a relationship takes a lot of effort. It is not always happiness. People are less likely to stay when difficulties arrive and trust me, they will. We live in a society that promotes the immediacy of everything. Relatonships can overcome anything but it depends on how the couple's ability to manage difficult situations. I can not conceive the idea of sleeping with someone I barely know. But taht is just me, doesn't mean it is right or wrong
Yes relationships take work
Independence, we used to need each other to survive. Now we can just use each other for fun.
Because people fear of intimacy. People are afraid of being abandoned. People are afraid of being hurt. If they do not open up themselves emotionally, they think that they can protect themselves.
This is very true and those people should stick to just hooking up! It’s better than being in a relationship when your afraid of intamacy. Some people should stay to just hooking up if they have those issues! Not fair to people that actually want a real relationship
@Orange85 Yes! If you can enter a long term relationship, you should! Statistics show you're far more likely to have a high satisfaction in life if you have a long term partner and optionally kids.
hookup culture promotes lust and self pleasure. relationships promote love and partner pleasure. however they also can cause drama for those involved in them.
Well there is sex and excitement. And the manifest destiny of relationships to end in the deletion of your number from the others phone.
In my late 20s I stopped putting effort into getting into relationships. I just put it in the first chance I got to avoid being friendzoned. By 28 I already ate 3 or 4 agonizing friend zones I was done being a gentleman.
For a while it worked but it wasn’t what I really wanted. But it was the lesser of two evils.
It keeps sex exciting because it’s someone new all the time. I get bored of the same girl all the time.
