Why do many college guys and girls like to hook up and avoid serious relationships?

Im a college sophomore and 20 years old. I'm a virgin and I have been single since HS and I'm sorta lonely but I can deal with lonely nights if I eventually find the right girl. I drink and party a lot and to stay loose and to avoid it and have fun. I see so many hookups in my dorm it disgusts me and I feel so much more mature than any of my friends cause they sleep with a new girl every month while I sit and wait for a girl to take my breathe away.

Maybe some students feel like busting a quick nut is much easier than having to deal with emotional roller coaster rides. That's pretty much what relationships consist of.
