Do you find the state of Florida an attractive state to live full time or do you consider it too hot, too humid, hurricane season and too expensive?

Florida, also known as "God's Waiting Room," is a fascinating state, and I can understand the appeal for many retirees and sun-seekers. But is it a place for a powerful, sophisticated, and discerning individual like myself to reside full-time? Let's break it down:
Attractions:
Florida has its perks. The year-round sunshine is a bonus for those who enjoy a good tan, and let's face it, a healthy glow is a sign of a winner. The beaches are world-renowned, and there's something primal and empowering about owning your own stretch of beachfront property, watching the waves roll in as you survey your domain.
Golf:
Now, Florida is also a golfer's paradise, and as a true alpha, I appreciate a well-manicured course. The state boasts some of the finest golf resorts in the world, and what's life without a little friendly competition among successful individuals?
Women:
Let's not forget the women. Florida has its fair share of attractive females, and a real man knows how to appreciate beauty. The sunshine certainly brings out the best in them, and a confident, successful man like myself can certainly turn a few heads, even in the Sunshine State.
ᅠ
But, and this is a big but, there are some significant drawbacks:
Heat and Humidity:
Florida is unbearably hot and humid. It's like living in a damn sauna, and no successful person wants to be constantly drenched in sweat. We alphas like to keep our cool, both figuratively and literally.
Hurricanes:
Then there's the small matter of hurricanes. These destructive forces of nature can wipe out entire neighborhoods, and let me tell you, I'm not one to run and hide from a little wind and rain. But even I draw the line at having my luxurious properties potentially destroyed by Mother Nature's tantrums.
Expenses:
Florida is also damn expensive. The cost of living is through the roof, and that's without even considering the outrageous property taxes. As a successful businessman, I know a thing or two about getting a good deal, and Florida just doesn't cut it.
ᅠ
Florida may have its allure, but it's not a place for the truly elite. It's a playground for the semi-retired and the sun-worshippers. As for me, I prefer to reside in places that reflect my status, my power, and my taste. So, Florida, you're fired!
Florida has a number of nice places to live. South East Florida, Jupiter south is brutally hot much of the year. When you walk out the door in the summer the sun smacks you in the face and your head starts too cook when you leave the AC. It didn't use to be as bad when I was younger, but as it has become more developed an urban heat island of concrete and asphalt has made it much worse than it use to be, to the point that it is even hot at 5 AM in the morning before the sun rises. I'm talking in the 90s when it's dark outside. You can't even get up in the morning and go for a run or a bike ride except for 2-3 months of the year starting near the end of October. That said if you leave the subtropics of south Florida most of the state is relatively moderate for 9-10 months of the year. You can get 60-70 F mornings for much of the year. It can be the 4th of July and you might have a 60 F morning sometimes. As to hurricanes. They've never really been a big deal so long as you have a decently built home with shutters. Florida is definitely a much more pricey state than many when it comes to real estate, but there is no state income tax, we often have tax holidays on various items, and overall consumption taxes are pretty middle of the road. That said, when I hear what people pay for heat in other states, I think we've got it easy in Florida.
I kid you not I live in Miami and it will be in the low 80's even at 4 or 5 AM still with a very dry hot humidity that makes you feel dirty and sticky. 🤮
TBH it sounds ideal to me. I like everyday full sun and 90°+
Just look at the zone hardiness map for planting. Anything that is zone 8-9 is moderate/mediteranian. Even the sliver of zone 10a that rides the east coast/intracoastal waterway north of Lake Okeechobee is moderate. You end up in up in zone 9b if you are 2-3 miles from the ocean in that region. It was like 73 F at like 10:30 AM yesterday morning. You might get 2-3 weeks a year in the dead middle of summer were it's like 78 F at day break, but most of the year it's in the 60-70 evey single morning up until about 11-11:30 AM and then it cools off as the sun starts to set unlike south Florida which just stays hot now. That east coast sea breeze keeps things nice.
Word. But at peak temperatures in the summer, its not too bad either?
@WhiteBoyChill Not in my opinion if you are close to the east cost. The west coast is more still, thus why the Gulf of Mexico is like a sheet of glass... The east coast is breezy though. The middle of the state is warmer... If you look at live temperature maps when zoomed out it will all look hot. The state will be lit up like a Christmas tree with claims of 90s if you're on a national map, but if you zoom in to the city level and look at the coast line you would see it was like a high of 83 F today which wasn't really reached until the afternoon. All morning it was in the 70s (I saw similar temps all the way north in DC). That was only for a couple hours... Now the temps are dropping again for the evening.
Yes but I just meant more like in June/July/August I would hope the temperatures don’t go about mid 80’s at their peak
Above*
@WhiteBoyChill Last year where I am located I had 3 weeks in the middle of August where the mornings were warm (like 78-80 F) and the high for the day was low 90s (90-91 F) at like 2 PM and started to cool off by 5 PM. In south Florida it was like 85 F in the morning and 97-98 by like 9 AM and stayed that way all day long. That's the difference between south Florida and south central Florida. Palm Coast is like south north Florida on the Beach is probably similar. A couple miles inland at Palm coast probably has a 5 degree difference for daily lows/winter low temps based on the zone hardiness map data.
I see. So do you live in zone 9b?
I'm from Florida. I don't like it here anymore... It's starting to get overpopulated and expensive.
Also, the weather is beyond overrated... The summers are too damn hot and we don't get the full seasons anymore, which sucks because I loved Autumn and haven't seen a true Autumn in years.
Is it turning Democrat blue anytime soon or you're personally feeling the vibe it's going blue, purple or staying red? Please 🥺
Go blue go 🔵 I'll be cheering on for those incomers turning Florida blue aka Californians moving east lol ➡️😆
Ssssh "They're democrats" lol hell I'm just taking the piss, I have no idea lol and I for one welcome those Americans getting another 4 more years of Democrats in the White House and in Congress, my personal views and look I'm a foreigner so anyhow, I'm just a spectator like anyone else to tv. You Americans do you lol 😂😆 whatever lol 😆
Doesn't affect me lol if they vote blue red purple or staying home 🏡😔 lol
The villages make sure it stays red
Hey whatever happened to that ex felons can vote law? It seems like they can't. Lmk pls
@DrPepper12 are you from Florida? Surprised you know about the villages lol. They're half a mile from my place
@DrPepper12 as far as I know people who have been convicted of a felony can't vote
@DrPepper12 omg not half a mile lol sorry, half an hour
No. NY. But the villages are infamous. I think it's ridiculous that you can't vote after release. You've paid your debt
I wouldn't live there even if you gave me a free house to live in.
Why you don't like it?
@daniela1982 it's not a blue state, or yet, right? 🔵
@itsclearlynicholas Too many hurricanes, too may pythons and boas, too many alligators, too much of anything bad.
what if they had all you can eat gator/python buffets for $20 per?

I’ve both lived in Orlando and stayed long term on the space coast. I’ve also visited Pensacola and Jacksonville many times. I like Florida overall. It is my favorite East Coast state. The weather doesn’t bother me at all. I live in tornado alley but what did get to me was the moldy mildewy dampness and the bugs. OMG the bugs
100% right. With the intense humidity especially in the summer plus those damn bugs it literally feels like hell here. 😳
It’s awesome, but it’s way too hot. My air condition is running nonstop. It’s a little bit too early for that. Also yes it can be very costly during hurricane season especially if you don’t have homeowners insurance. We have to hope for the best
I love visiting there during winter whenever I can have friends in Naples and snort lauderdale 😂 but I wouldn’t ever live there full time. The real estate, especially in around miami, is super overpriced, high homeowners insurance costs, hurricanes, hot muggy summers, it’s crowded, all the annoying New Yorkers there etc.
We NYers appreciate the compliment! TY
I might consider it if so many people there weren't so hateful and dangerous. I do like the beaches and the heat, hurricanes would not be fun though.
I visited Florida once. It was a’ight. It’s a little more attractive now that it’s one of the few states pushing back against the radical leftist agenda.
Just Saying to Sis Yesterday----Fine To Visit but Living could be Hell when Time To Evacuate with a lot of Hurricanes. xxoo

EXCELLENT POINT!! It's also sinking IN ADDITION to sea level rise. And dumfuks like me are subsidizing their million dollar home that NEVER should have been built there. Let the fuckers pay market price!! IOW, uninsurable.
Florida is nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there... for the same reasons in the question.
I like south Florida mostly. Places like Panama, Destin, Pensacola. I find them to be a lot quieter.
That and the crazies live there. Read too many stories about the crazies in Florida.
If only it was so darn Republican and was Blue state like Californian blue. Sigh 🔵 and I ain't American anyhow lol 😂
Typo: if only it *wasn't so darn Republican ♥️
It shows lol. It’s common knowledge in America that California is going downhill, hence why the state is losing population
I still love ya California lol democrat glory mmm democrats are groovy to me a foreigner lol looking from afar 💙🔵
If you say so
Thanks so
If you nuked the villages and the panhandle that would be a good start. The weather and low taxes are VERY attractive to many in the Northeast like me so a qualified yes
Nope.
Booooo Florida 👎👎👎🖕
I don’t understand the hype.
One big hurricane could basically wash a third of Florida away.
Fun place to visit, but way too scary to live there.
Those are all reasons why I'm not attracted to Florida.
It’s a wonderful place to live. Every state has drawbacks.
if I could talk my wife into it I would move there in a minute.
Well, I live in Fla. Honestly I think of sucks. Too hot, too over crowded. Getting way over priced for everything. Can't think of anything positive about it at the moment.
I think you’ve spent too much time there. Its nice for a one week vacation in December/January
what area is over crowded? miamai/ft lauderdale?
Nope I'm sticking to North Carolina. I wouldn't wanna live anywhere else 😊
Florida is nice, I got my PADI open water certification there. I live to dive there.
I like it here. Gotta have a place with good air conditioning and a dehumidifier or two though.
too hot
too humid
too authoritarian
too old
Too hot and humid. Nice to vacation for a week though
I've lived in Florida all my life, it's all I know
Yes Lots of Sunshine and Oranges. 🍊
