Winter is just a rumor in Florida. There is no state income taxes. Housing prices are half what they are in the Northeast and California. Florida elections are settled in 24 hours with no controversy. And now many colleges' campus police officers are working with ICE agents in identifying and arresting illegal aliens.

Florida is a dump. Fascist Governor, hateful legislators, insurance costs 2x to 3x the national average, stiflingly hot and humid in summer, crowded in winter. Cities are either too touristy, too crime ridden, or both. Hurricanes, floods, traffic everywhere. The only good thing is there are SO many homes for sale, it's a buyers market for price, but then there's the insurance, utility and school issues. Oh yes, let's talk schools.

According to the Florida Education Association (FEA), there were nearly 5,000 instructional vacancies at the start of the 2024-2025 school year. FIVE THOUSAND. They'll tell you " well heck, last year we had over 6,200!" Congratulations, they closed schools so there's no more teacher vacancies in them.

Additionally, there has been a rise in the number of courses being taught by teachers who are not certified in their assigned subject areas, with this number increasing by 16% over the last three years. Florida has had a Bus Driver shortage for the last 6 years and it's not getting better. Orange County alone is short 277 drivers.

And once in school, there's the empty library shelves due to banned books. Slaughterhouse Five, The Handmaid's Tale, The ABC's of Black History, virtually ANYTHING to do with LGBTQ information (banned K-12), Animal Farm, 1984, and even the Diary of Anne Frank, are all banned in HIGH SCHOOL !! Effin HIGH SCHOOL. Some idiots even think the Diary of Anne Frank is fiction! I read that book in 6th grade, Orwell in 7th grade!

Florida has zero interest in educating children in the general population. Their big push now is for vouchers and to tear down what's left of public education to scam taxpayers into paying for the wealthy to attend private schools that only the elite will get into. They claim to be saving kids from "liberal, heathen indoctrination" while indoctrinating them into white supremacist "Christian hate".

Also of interest is how US News and World Report ranked Florida #1 in Education (and Utah #2) while World Population Review ranks them 41st and 37th respectively, basing their score on K-12 performance, school funding and resources, higher education quality, and safety. K-12 performance looks at graduation rates, test scores, and reading/math proficiency. School funding includes teacher salaries, student expenditures, and teacher qualifications, while higher education quality evaluates college graduation rates, tuition fees, and funding. Safety focuses on school safety boards, gun violence, and criminal offenses at colleges.

Well, after reading all the comments I'm just floored. Yes, Florida has it's problems, but what state doesn't. I was born here and have been here all my life. I absolutely love FL. There are some parts that I wouldn't go, same for all states. The two things that bother me are the mosquitoes and the terrible hot heat in summer. We have some of the most beautiful beaches. Great fishing. Lots of local community traditions. And great tourist attractions. I can't even imagine living anywhere else. I specially have the best of it because in driving 30 minutes from my home, I have lakes, ponds, beach and river right here for me to enjoy. Yes it has it's problems. But I would never imagine living in snow, lol

The snowbirds from the North East are generally pretty rude. I have New Yorkers block the road with their car and scream at me from the car demanding directions because they are too stupid to navigate on their own. For some reason they think residents are their tour guide free of charge. I've seen women from New York have mental break downs at the deli making a scene, because you guessed it there were no half and half hot dogs for sale. They often try to pick fist fights with you in stores for absolutely no reason. North Easterners are a bunch of fucking degenerates, yet they all want to come to Florida, they have no common sense or common courtesy. Other than that, Florida is pretty great.

I have relatives who live in Florida. It's too freaking hot most of the year, it almost always pours rain from 415 to 430 PM every day, the cost of housing is ridiculously high, and getting homeowners or automobile insurance is ridiculously high, if you can get it at all.

Other than that, it's a great place to live.

Oh, and hurricanes often visit the state.

Not sure why Floridians stay there, but they love it.

As someone who´s lived in both Texas and Florida, I had to laugh at the complaints about hot Florida summers. Go live through one in Texas and you won´t complain about a Florida summer ever again.

There are some crazy leftists in Florida, like everywhere else, but they´re kept in check in the Sunshine State.

Yes, it's to hot in the summer (Humid) Its flat, everything is white. The palm tree mostly have one branch, until you get to to the touristy areas. Everyone is a transplant from where I am from. It's beautiful in January!
