What is your general preferred dress code for a date?

I have yet to decide for myself as I have never gone on a date before.

But I am sure that I will not be wearing any of those sports shoes on a date. I honestly prefer to be a bit old style gentleman. Formal shoes, with a suit on. Although because of my height, I may not look that good in a suit, I would really like to try.

But the attitude and behavior would be that of a gentleman, for sure. She should feel special, now and hopefully, afterwards too.

I am living with my girlfriend who I started dating in December 2020. Prior to that time, I had a number of first dates with women I met online. I usually had first dates on Friday nights and I went directly from work to a restaurant to meet the woman for dinner. Since I am an attorney, most often that meant that I was dressed in a suit or slacks and a blazer. I don't pretend to know about women in your age range but most women in my age range are pleasantly surprised when their date appears in a suit.

My wife and I don't get many opportunities to go out on dates. So more often than not, I'll want to make an occasion of it. I'll wear a sport coat, button-up shirt, and nice pair of slacks and we'll go wherever we agree on or surprise the other with.

Completely agree with you on that. The second one was not as good as the first one. And the recent one King'sman, was so-so for me.

Although it was really good in getup and all in clothes department, it sort of lacked the realness of scenes feeling.

I usually like him to dress business casual or in a full suit for my date. I like either a quiet picnic or coffee shop, so business casual. Or I like a nice dinner, so a nice suit. If he dresses up, I will dress up nicely.

It depends what the date is, hiking... hiking boots and proper cloths. Dancing/clubbing totally different outfit.

Going ATV riding in the mud and rain, wear something you don't mind destroying... lol.

I don't like the jacket or the tie, plus the guy is a comedian. I feel like bolder colors would work better -- red, maybe pink. A statement piece would be needed, and a really nice watch.

The important thing is to dress with intent, clothes that communicate who you are. A plumber who shows up to your house all dirty and filthy would be just as strange as one who showed up in a 3-piece suit. Buy the best you can afford that shows who you are.

It all really depends on where you're going on said date and what's the decorum there gonna be like. So like if you're going to an expensive restaurant with a formal decorum, you'll probably need a suit and tie or else they won't even let you in. On the flipside, if your date is a simple stroll along the beach, maybe go with something more casual like a t-shirt paired with shorts and sandals.

Formal and business causal, only. I even do summery business casual at the beach (button up short sleeves with chinos). If a girl a showed up to a date with me wearing crop tops, yoga pants, or ripped up jeans, et cetera, I'd do an instant "goodbye". I have high standards when it comes to fashion choices.

Most women who I would date would be "outdoors" type women. So, odds are we would probably meet up for a hike or something like that. Although we would probably meet for coffee or lunch before that. So for me, just casual wear. Jeans, long sleeve shirts... etc.

If your date is to a formal place, like a restaurant, the suit is fine. If it's a more casual thing, though, wear something more casual. There's no hard and fast rule... just wear what other people would wear at the place (s) you are going on your date.

I'm not a suit kind of guy, so it tends to be good jeans, a nice shirt.
That fits who I am.
I can dress up when needed, but I'm more casual.
A lot depends on where we are going.
to the race track, or tractor pulls, nothing fancy, but clean, neat n tidy.
Out to dinner dockers, a nice shirt, and in the winter maybe a sport coat to help stay warm.

Example: You wouldn't wear a tux and evening gown to a sports bar - or jeans and flannel to the opera.

I like to dress casual yet still be able to turn heads, and I love dresses. So like, daytime dates I'll opt for a flashy sundress. Night time dates I'll go for maxi dresses or halter dresses.
