If your cats are like family to you in every sense of the word and your boyfriend actively doesn't like them, and that bothers you---it's not a red flag per se, but rather something that is going to make it difficult for you in the relationship because your cats mean that much to you, but I'd caution you not to throw away a good thing in a good boyfriend if he is one, because he doesn't get along with your pets. Your SO doesn't have to like everything you like in order for them to be a good person or worthy of the relationship.

No. Animals are just like people. They all have their own personalities, likes, dislikes, etc. Some are aggressive, some bite, some are super shy and won't go near anyone but those they know. And some people are allergic, or have been bit, or scratched. The problem is that some humans think that their own animal is the greatest thing ever, has no bad traits at all. When the owner is in denial, that's when problems really crop up.

How important are your cats to you? For example, people I date have to be liked by my dog and like my dog. It's pretty easy for her to like you, pet her, play with her, or give her treats and she'll like you. She loves almost everyone she meets because the "knee-jerk" reaction of people is to pet a dog.

It really depends on how he treats your cats. If he doesn't like them but would help you take care of them or just let them do their own thing then no. If he doesn't like them and goes out of his way to antagonize them or even harm them then yeah.

I just prefer dogs over cats! You need to judge him on how he treats you and others.

I'd be more concerned if your cats didn't like him! Animals are a good judge of people.

Cats are loyal animals but they’re territorial. So if the feeling is mutual between your man and your cats, it’s best for them to stay clear from each other but that doesn’t mean it’s a red flag. Not everyone is a cat person 🤣. Unless he is an animal abuser, then yes!

It's more of a red flag if you don't like someone just because they don't like your cats. I don't automatically like someone's animals. It depends on their behaviors. I've met so many girls with misbehaved dogs because they have no clue how to handle them nor train them.

It doesn't have to be a major red flag. It just means he's not a cat person, some people really just aren't into having pets. Maybe just needs some time to get more comfortable around your cat, it's possible for non cat people to end up falling in love with cats once they have more experience with them.

I’m a cat owner and personally for me, it would be. I want another cat in the future, and tbh I don’t see myself being without cats… I want to be with someone who likes cats as much as me rather than putting up with it. That’s no fun at all.

Cats have boundaries. People who can't respect boundaries often don't like cats and aren't good partners.

I would say so. My wife was not a cat person so when she started coming around, I think my cat sensed that and kind of owned her. She now can't imagine life without our cats.
