He asks me to study since I have final professional exams before graduation. Is it normal?

He initiated texting me daily but we hardly greet and then he tells me he wants me to study and focus well on exams only for now. He recently told me he'll tell me himself if he wanted to talk about something. And I had to agree because I know he's right.

Is it normal? I wish he hadn't said the last sentence "I'll tell you myself if I had to talk to you about something." I know he was telling me to focus on exams and that's the only purpose. but i don't feel good since i'm habitual of us sharing (talking) daily online.
