Why is my boyfriend so obsessed with cars and his own car?

He wants to make it faster to accelerate and stuff like that. Why would he want that? He had this obsession even before he met me of course after meeting me it isn't as obsessive as it used to be before meeting me but he still has this stupid idea. So why? Why would he want something as extreme as modifying his car to make it even faster than it already is?

Many people have hobbies or interests of some kind and that includes women as well.

Now, a lot of guys have the need to show off with their toys. They are not satisfied with the way the cars they can afford financially look, behave or sound and that is why they have the feeling that they need to modify something that requires no modification in the fist place.

That is part of the mentality of some guys. To impress women or buddies and to show that they have what it takes to make something look better, be faster or attract more attention, they will go to great lengths to do just that. Why be satisfied with a regular muffler if you can install one that makes as much noise as Concorde did at take-off?

Simply, to attract attention...

Now, solely being attracted to cars is only a hobby or passion just like being attracted to clothing is a passion for those women that think they need more clothing that they will ever be able to wear at once.

It's called a hobby, get one. You can be doing it while he's working on his car. That's something that a lot of guys like to do. If you're not into it then maybe you should find a different boyfriend. Don't bitch and whine and moan because he enjoys working on his pride and joy

Because cars are cool? And that’s totally subjective too, you obviously don’t find it interesting and that’s fine, but he does, and you shouldn’t question the validity of it. Working on your own vehicle is an awesome hobby/passion, because you can put in effort to something and see it get better right before your eyes and feel like you’ve accomplished something. Be happy he isn’t into drugs or extremist politics.
