Am I Wrong? (Caution: Cancel Culture/Stan Drama)?

I have a Kpop Instagram account and I got a message from a random person asking me to go report a certain account because they’re grooming a minor. I refused to do so and decided to go talk to the 19 yr old, myself.

The 19 yr old told me he was joking with his friend about hooking up with them once they turn 18, but apparently the minor took it the wrong way. Mind you, the 19 yr old had sent me a screenshot of the minor making a similar comment a few weeks before…but they just brushed that under a rug I guess.

Since this is an issue in the online community, I made my own post talking about my opinion on the matter which was basically “it’s ok for a 15 & 19 to date, with consent.” It’s only a 4 year age gap, so what’s the problem? At my high school, the ages ranged from 14-18 and I had senior friends who were dating freshmen.

But as expected, I got jumped by cancel culture for my opinion who wanted me to delete my account just because I had a different view/opinion than theirs. It’s funny how when they can’t back up their claims/opinions they start calling me out of my name saying “kys” and calling me the N word as if they know my race (And I’m sure most of them aren’t even black but that’s besides the point).

In conclusion, how do you guys feel about age gaps. I’m sure older generations won’t see anything wrong with it since they got 10+ age gaps in their marriages lol (not saying that’s everyone tho).

Y’all probably think this post was a waste of your time lol but it just baffles me that people would get so upset over a 4 year age gap.

Yeah, I would’ve stayed out of that if I were you. It was in poor taste to advocate for some man you don’t even know and in regards to a scenario that was entirely inappropriate. You’re going on about age gap dating and trying to justify your talking points, but do you realize that 16 is the youngest legal age of consent and she’s not even there yet? Even in those states, there are acceptable age difference requirements and in most cases he doesn’t fall into that. But what’s more is that this friend he joked to was not comfortable, so you aren’t even rallying for two people wanting to be together. To use your platform to back up his unwarranted, unwanted advances towards someone you even acknowledged several times is a minor, is just wildly inappropriate. The internet can be ruthless, I know, and I’m sure you’re feeling some sort of way about all this. But you should make better choices going forward, especially when it comes to what situations you should take it upon yourself to get involved in. This wasn’t the right one.

Yes you should’ve stayed out of it, not to make anyone feel comfortable but because of the nature of the topic at hand. That’s my opinion just as you’re entitled to yours. You speak on your comfort but what about the 15 year old girl who had an older man come onto her unwarranted? Doesn’t the fact that her comfort was violated mean anything to you? I’d be more concerned with that than taking it upon myself to aide that man and publicly support his advances on a minor. Then you almost jokingly dismiss it with some “oh you old folks must think this is so silly, some of you have like ten year age gaps in your relationships lol”, bffr. You strike me as the type who just can’t be wrong no matter what and even when you know you’re wrong, you will keep backing it because all be damned if anyone sees you take accountability.

Also to be clear, people aren’t upset about just any 4 year age gap. It’s the fact that he is 19 and she’s 15, under the legal age of even the youngest age of consent in every state. A freshman dating a senior is a bit different, they are both still in high school, he probably just turned 18 (most in my graduate class were 17, only a few barely 18). This just isn’t the same.

Depends. If they just turned 15 and the other is 19 going on 20 then that's a no. If that 15 is turning 16 soon and that 19 just became so shrugs that would be normal here.
