You must be really good looking or be really successful or well known. You must be a guy with a lot going for you. you can’t be a regular dude

Not necessarily. My best friend is, I would say, an 8-9/10 and that's an objective opinion. She's been mistaken for a model before and she's got an incredible figure. She's also kind and bubbly. She goes out with guys who are perhaps conventionally less attractive than her all the time. Some of them haven't had the best personalities. But luckily some of them do. It's all because they made her feel a certain way. People always comment on how they're "punching", but she doesn't feel that way at all. She likes them 'cos she likes them. She told me she is attracted to confidence.

Sorry if this sounds narcissistic but I am just stating matter-of-fact. I am a model (I'm not putting my pic up for security reasons) and I'm not unattractive. For me, it's all about 1) whether I am attracted to him physically (and no he doesn't have to be a 10 to do that, just attractive to me) and 2) do I click with him. This is self-explanatory; I want a best friend first and foremost.

In fact, looks are only really important at the beginning. Personality is what makes me want to actually be with them. Yes, we girls like to look at really hot guys. Everyone likes hot people. But when it comes to the real world and dating, chemistry is so much more than that. It's about intangible stuff. And what looks good on paper is not necessarily what will click in real life.

So no, a man doesn't have to be David Gandy for cute girls to want him. They just have to click with the girl and be her type looks-wise. Physical attraction is a necessary component, yes, but the biggest crushes I've ever had were on guys that made me laugh.

Honestly, I would just throw the net out there and shoot your shot with girls you find "hot." If they're interested then great, if they aren't, don't ever take it as a reflection on you. It just means you weren't suited for each other.

What is special? Well known? Do you think we all date celebrities or well known people? You know that is not the case. I date someone based upon how well their personality matches mine. If it is a good fit, chances are there is potential for a meaningful relationship.

Sure, I have to be physically attracted to my partner but beauty is subjective and what I find attractive or handsome, the next girl will not. So, looks are hardly the determining factor. A guy could be the best looking guy in the world with a rubbish personality. I’m not going to give him the time of day.

Why would I want to date some jerk just because he is good looking? This whole percentage nonsense about 10%, 20% blah blah is such a joke. That is all we see on this site. “80/20 rule!”. What a load of rubbish.

Right, I think everyone needs a degree of specialness to have a special girlfriend.
In my perspective, you need a combination of traits.

I'm by no means the popular guy, I keep to myself, grew up poor, didn't really start making money until recently, but I've always been called very handsome and very funny. These two traits together have made me successful in dating. My girlfriends have always said they never laughed so hard with a partner, it really works.

That's not to say that I haven't been rejected by gold digging 18-20 year olds! I've been asked what I drive, and was told I can't date someone who drives a 2014 Nissan or makes less than 100k, lol they were still living at home and not working, I don't know.

My best friend was very good looking as well and grew up rich. When we approached women together, Guy would only talk how rich he was, and most times it worked... I noticed however that he couldn't keep girls very long, I was told they got bored.

Combinations of specialness are essential for whoever the target is.

See I wanted to say I agree, with the original question as it was asked. Because deepening on the women it's a lot of work to date hot women. They tend to really expect it to, and not all of them deserve it honestly.

But then you say things in the writeup that I cannot agree with. Like no, not only 10% of mean get all the women, but that's also BS. Because guys like us would not want to 90% of the women that are out there. So, someone has to take them, cause we sure as fuck aren't.

Women date down and up as much as men do so I can't agree with that, either. For example, I have dated some attractive women, not hot, but not ugly... pretty average looking honestly and they were some amazing women that treated me very well. A lot better than some of these "HOT" women ever did.

So, was I dating down or up? Well, my man I never date down, it but that all depends on your own ego and where you are in life. "HOT" is a very subjective standard to judge someone by, because HOT can be very close to NOT!

Does she  have  to be hot? I mean, she doesn't have to be ugly, but there are plenty of women who are average looking or have a pretty plainness about them and they're still hot in the way they are. I think if you're dead set on having a 'hot' girlfriend, or at least one who looks like something out of Hollywood (which most of those are not even 'hot' to me anyway), then you're probably going to need to the things you mentioned, because most of those kinds of 'hot' women are shallow and looking for money and status in a man. So better question: do you really want that kind of woman that you have to stress yourself out with trying to attract by desperately trying to get money or a high flying career? Or do you just want a woman who will be the perfect person for you and wants you as you are?
