I have had this type of thing happen to me. Honestly, the only think I could come up with is that on some level they did not feel good enough for me. I some way I made them feel inadequate, and that caused them to try to make me feel less than, so that they could feel better about themselves and more secure in the relationships.

These types of people usually suffer from a high degree of insecurity or lacking in confidence, so they project their feeling of inadequacy on to other people as a means to control or develop a co-dependent relationship before all the other co-dependent behaviors start to surface.

I have no understanding of why another would want to do that either. Maybe they do not realize that participating in those shenanigans make them look horrible in the eyes of others.

Its a dead, hurtful, and trifling heart that I can not wrap my head around. Sometimes I know they are simply projecting their failures and unhappiness upon other people.

Just let the abuse and abuser go if you can.
