Absolutely she can. I think the whole notion of the guy having to ask the girl everything is really outdated. You risk losing or missing out on a chance with someone thinking that you cannot ask the guy.

I know that is exactly what would have happened if I had not asked my now husband out on our first date. I would have likely never seen him again and totally blow my chance with him. Sometimes, you just have to go for it.

I see my situation no different than a girl asking a guy to be her valentine. You should not hold back because of the stereotypical thinking that it is the guy's job to initiate everything. That is exactly how you miss opportunities that could turn into something really special.

What is the worst that can happen anyway? You get turned down. Disappointment is part of life. What is even more disappointing is having to wonder what could have been if you just work up the courage to say something to someone.

These are mostly old gender role stereotypes, like men are expected to be the one to ask ladies, because it's a 'gentlemen' thing to do.
