What would you think if the person you were interested in, said they were admitted to a psych ward in the past?

I would ask them more questions to see how serious their mental issues are

It depends on the mental illness, how serious it is/was, and whether they are completely over it.

If it's something like severe paranoid schizophrenia, then I would not want to deal with it unless they are completely over it with several years proven track record. That means several years without any meds and they are completely symptom free.

I could be friends with someone like that, but I would not be in a relationship with them. I will not take on that kind of burden.

Sometimes life beats you down and you lose it. It happens to the best of us. It doesn't mean you have a permanent mental illness. Just a moment of... disarray

My ex girlfriend told me about this. It was one of many red flags. However I didn’t cut her off immediately. I took time to look at her holistically before making a rash decision.
