Is a movie a good first date or boring?

To start off I’m a bisexual girl and I have a date next week with this girl I matched with on this app, I’m 24 she’s 23, she lives only an hour away and we’re going to see a movie, we’ve been texting for 2 days now, neither of us wanna rush into sex or anything intimate but we wanna do something somewhat fun so I told her about seeing the new scream movie since we both like scary movies and she said she’s up for it. Do you think movie dates are cool?

in my opinion, your first few dates are for determining whether or not you have long-term compatibility with this new person, so that you don't get too attached or waste each other's time if you aren't. As such, those dates should primarily be about talking to each other. You can't really do that at a movie. That's why I generally keep movie dates for later, at least after the initial vetting process has been completed.

If you don't have any intention of having a serious, long-term relationship, then this doesn't matter, but if you do, then you would be wise to use those early dates to vet the other person so that you can be sure that you even have a future with them. This person is going to be a lot more important to you than an employee, and you would require a resume and references for an employee, right?

That's not to say that you can't have fun or do an activity on those early dates - you absolutely can - but in my opinion you should do activities that allow the conversation to carry on. You also need to be PREPARED to end things if you discover things in your vetting process that don't align with your values and priorities, even if you are very attracted to them. If you aren't compatible, that attraction will soon fade, and ending things when you are much more emotionally involved will be much more difficult and painful.

That's my advice to everyone who is looking for a serious relationship, by the way.

I don't think so, unless you already knew this person well enough to know their movie interests beforehand.

Beyond that, most movies that have come out in the last few years have been both boring and long, and wouldn't make a great impression for a first date. The stereotypical coffee shop or restaurant, or something else that gives you better opportunity to talk to each other like a hiking trail or golf would be better.

To me it would not the best, I would use the time of that date to get to know you better instead, so not having our attention taken by something else all the time. A walk, a dinner, any situation that allows talking and paying attention on each other. Movies are definitely good if you want to "share an experience" but I think that should be a friendly thing with no further intentions, or something that comes later if it's in a context of dating, giving priority to the "selection" you'd do on each other.
That's nothing too problematic though, this is just how I think priorities would be "perfect" but in fact watching a movie is not actually "bad", either. Maybe consider meeting earlier so you can have a dinner together first, not needed in a restaurant, even at home, just to have some time to know each other.

They are. It really just depends on the movie that’s being shown and how good it will be, thanks to the directors/ screenwriters/ and crew.

Movies, regardless of occasion, or party members, are always a gamble.

At least- either way, if it’s really good or really bad, you both can then discuss it afterwards: how much you both lovedddd it… or how much you both HATED it 😂😭👍💯.

Seeing a movie together is a good part of a first date, but it's better if you add something to that, dinner or drinks either before or after.

Its a good ice breaker if you are both not that comfortable going on a first date. It would allow for you to be together but not scared of conversations. After the movie you two can talk about what you thought of a movie.

Generaly it is better to get to know each other over drinks or dinner. It is more personal that way.

My story: I knew a guy for a little while. We like talking with each other when we were in our friend group. For our first day I asked him to go to the movies and I was super nervous so I was happy that we will watch a movie and disscus it later, it was easier that way because we did not have to worry about what to talk about.

that is probably the worst first date you can possibly have. it's the first date right? meaning you don't know them right? you wanna get to know them right? how is that gonna work out if you're staring at a screen together, learning nothing about each other?

In my opinion no. The whole point of a “date” is to spend time with the other person and retrieve data on them. That’s kind of hard to do when you’re at the theater where talking is a felony. That’s more of a “I love you” kind of thing. Something to do after two variables have been willingly paired for a decent while.

Depends on the chemistry, tbh in that kinda setting maybe it’s just me assuming too much but I feel like the person who invites you over expects something to happen. “Physically” I mean weather it be sex or just a close cuddle up and possibly a kiss you’ll soon know by how they treat you especially with women they give ques and leave it up to you to act or to not act but this again is my experience. Anyhow if I am right in my assumption, how do those scenarios sound to you?

It's not ideal, as there's little room for engaging conversation. Couple that with a movie that bombs and you have an experience that may cause one of you to not be interested in continuing.

Terrible first date, a first date is really an interview to find out whether a person is suited to you, you won't find anything out sitting in a cinema for 2+ hours.

I'm not a fan of movie for a first date. That being said I have done it ( she was time poor and I knew she really wanted to see the film). Gave is something to talk about over dinner (between coffee, movie, dinner date lasted over 8 hours)

It's all dependent on the people watching. If you love movies, in your case sounds like both enjoy horror movies, then watching a movie can be a good first date.
