You're suspicious of the motivation. I have been in work places where it was customary to buy a cake and some did bake other things then cake. But nobody baked the cake. Was the cake shared or just for him?

I think you are more justified if there is no work cake culture and even more if it was a you only cake.

I mean I don’t know about other girls but…if I made a cake for a man…that means he’s the love of my life. Lol.
Maybe it’s just me, but I wouldn’t make cake for some random guy I didn’t have deep feelings for.
