At most, he might be looking into whether you'd be up for having sex or something. If he actually wanted to get back together with you or wanted to have a serious conversation with you, he would have the guts to reach out to you directly instead of going through a dating app and waiting for you to like back. Just using a dating app, to me, means that he isn't being serious.

Harder to say with girls since a lot of us girls like indirect communication and throwing the ball into other people's courts so that we don't have to be blunt or honest ourselves. But I would say that in any case, people (guys and girls) who don't directly communicate about what they want and skirt around having open and honest discussions, usually aren't too serious about whatever the subject may be. If you seriously want to talk to someone or consider getting back together with someone, you don't throw them a measly little like on some random dating app. That's the laziest and most cowardly approach to it, that just shows that their heart isn't really in it no matter what. Which to me, in this case, hints that he might be open for something casual, but nothing more.

That's why he's an Ex now... because you were the last person to be with, so it might be fantasizing about you making out with another guy, while him knowing your body and character. So it could be just a fantasy for him, or he might just want to see how you would react. I'm sure if you will get together with him he might start asking questions like: did you found any guy? Is he better than me in bed? Does it have it bigger? Does he satisfy you, etc, etc, so i'm sure that will answer your questions right then and there.
