A local man I became good friends with in a counterinsurgency mission told me how in his culture there's like a boogeyman that comes for kids at night if they're bad. So parents tell their kids stories of the boogeyman before bed so they a) stay in bed and go the F to sleep and b) don't F around the next day and do what they're told. While hanging out by a bonfire one night he said how the insurgents tell their kids stories of him, because he is far scarier than the boogeyman could ever be.

After some time of working together we accomplished a particular task, and after we wrapped up and went back to celebrate at his place, he said "Tonight, I tell my children of you." That meant a lot to me coming from him.
