He joked about getting me a ring. is he thinking about marriage?

I dated this guy very briefly back in 2018 before I got into another long-term 4 year relationship. We recently reconnected after he saw me on a dating app following my split. He had saved my number for all those years and messaged me, saying he had seen me on the app and asked me if I was in his town.

Anyway, he ended up asking me on date which I accepted. We had a few drinks and he was talking about how he was going to a dinner with some friends the next day. He joked about bringing me along and introducing me as his girlfriend, even his wife. I then joked back asking him when he was going to get me a ring. He said "That's not a problem, I can get you one." Prior to that, he was talking about how he pictured life with his future wife and kids in his hometown and couldn't wait for that part of his life.

Was the whole joking about getting me a ring situation just for the fun of it or was there more to it?
