Was my text response to a guy I've been seeing too mean/insensitive?

I've been talking to/seeing this guy for a month. He co-parents his dog with his ex, so he will often mention needing to take care of his dog on certain days when we try to schedule dates. I asked him if he had a set schedule for when he has to take the dog, and he said "no, it's random, but usually every 10 days."

My response? "(Dogs name) must be enjoying the double life. He's like Hanna Montana 😝"

He left me on read which makes me think I offended him. Am I in the wrong or am I just overthinking things?

First off a dog is not a child so why does he need to "co parent" it.
Such behavior screws up the dog anyway because unlike a child they can't rationalize why they are going with this guy or staying with his ex.

More importantly the fact there's no set time frame for when to pick up the dog brings to question is he really co-parenting it, or is this an excuse for a fling/quick screw with his ex.

Have you actually even met this dog?

Secondly the fact that he puts a dog ahead of your potential dates means that he doesn't value you as a person.

Forget someone he's thinking of date. Again it's a dog, not a child, and that he prioritizes the dog over you speaks very very poorly of his mentality. If he was a respectable person after all he'd arrange a date with you & tell his ex I can't pick up Rover on X, Y or Z days because I'm busy.

Particularly, as said, there's apparently no set schedule for picking up the dog anyway.

Seriously? He is putting a dog ahead of you? I guess that makes you lower than a cur dog. I get it that people like their dogs, but who would put it at the top of his love life? It's not like a shared custody child. It's a dog! I would find someone unattached to an animal that they valued more than you. Does he place the dog over you regarding sex too? 😯

It's super weird that he would "co-parent" a dog, but to answer your question; he probably didn't respond because he wasn't sure how to. It wasn't a mean comment, it was just kind of odd. I probably wouldn't have responded either.

I know Hannah Montana, but I don't understand the comparison you made to his dog.

A dog is not a child and does not need coparenting. This guy can either keep his dog or get another one if he wants. This is one of those things that is bad when either sex does it as I would not tolerate it from a woman. Find a guy who isn't such a little bitchboy.

It was a joke. If he can't take a joke, the hell with him. The dog is not a child, they don't need to share custody of a dog. That's the most ridiculous shit I've ever heard. I would be a little kinder to the dog's welfare than others have been and grant a bit of leniency there, but, if the guy is going to have a relationship with you, then YOU should come before the dog. Maybe you can both co-sit Bowser.
