Have you, or would you, date someone who is average, a 5/10 based solely on their appearance?

Most people are average. Some are above average, some are below average, but most are average. If everyone was a 9/10 based on their appearance, then 9/10 would, by definition, be average.

I've dated many women who were quite average based on their appearance. Some of them were outstanding people in other ways. Many of them were intelligent, most of them were kind and nurturing, and some of them were very satisfying when the relationship got to the point of having sex. I never thought that their average appearance was a deficit for them, and I felt strongly attracted to them.

However, some people seem to resent being called "average" and they refuse to date anyone who looks "average." How do you feel about dating someone who looks average?

Average in  looks  alone? Not a problem at all. What draws me to people is who they are as a person — their soul. If they have a heart and soul of gold, but they look quite ordinary otherwise, they’re still a catch. Because beautiful faces and bodies are everywhere.  Even if it’s a smaller percentage of the population, an attractive body is much easier to find than an attractive soul. To have great looks, it’s primarily going to lean on genetics that someone is born with. To have a great heart and soul? That takes developing character, adopting values and virtues, and having emotional maturity. An attractive person may be nice to look at, but an attractive soul? Those are the people you can entrust your future with. Those are the people you can entrust with being a mother to your kids. Those are the people you can entrust with your life. Looks are great.  But, if you’re dating to  marry ? Then heart and soul definitely holds  huge  weight — at least for me.

Average just means normal.. Nothing extraordinary.. You can be a woman that's cute but average, and you can be a guy that's mildly handsome but average.. So... Yeah..

Absolutely. As a matter of fact, my exes and guys I had crushes on in the past could probably be considered average looking- no, I'm not being mean; just stating a fact. I fell for their personalities and how they treated me over their looks...

Yeah, really- a person that actually put looks over personality, haha. We exist. I do have standards, but I'm also realistic enough to realize that if I'm average looking, I'm not going after a guy that looks like a fitness model because he probably won't see me as his type.

I've done this many times, as long as you get on, that's all that matters.
If the connection is good, and you are attracted to one another for they are, it shouldn't matter.

Appearance is the go to for first initial attraction triggers... then we find out their personality sucks and that initial physical attractions start to fade. Now in reverse we might not be super attracted to someone because lets say they are a 5 in looks but their humor, personality and overall persona really vibes with us and makes them attractive overall then yes... I would date someone who is average in looks.

I would say I'm average and definitely no model. I embrace that wholeheartedly. I am okay dating average looking people as well and all of my past partners have been average. I do have a 7/10 minimum attraction level standard though. I want to be able to say I'm genuinely attracted to them physically.

There was one girl that I knew in high school a long time ago though. And while she was maybe like a 4/10 in attraction level, she had an incredible personality. She was definitely into me, but I never reciprocated back then and truthfully I do regret it. So the 7/10 line is not an inflexible line, but rather a light filter.

I honestly don't have idea of how I could see at someone and just say "this person is a 5/10" I really don't do this, ever...

and what I mean is... I could not really tell a four from a five or a six... or stuff like that

because appearance is not that kind of important to me, it is a factor yes... but so many other things are much more important to me so if I fall for someone and for the right reasons then I will want to be with them I will be with them if they're into me as well

Taking into consideration that everyone has a different attractiveness scale and some of the evaluations happen subconsciously, I'm not sure how I should answer this question :D

I don't rate people. Or do I feel the chemistry and attraction or not... it's as simple as that.

I'm gonna sound shallow but I promise I don't intend to be. I usually wouldn't date someone I considered just average looking unless I got to know them first and somehow fell for their personality.

I'm attracted to guys who are quite conventionally attractive (to me subjectively), but personality is a must have.

Would I date an average looking person in the future? Maybe. You can't help who you fall for, so I can't predict who I would or wouldn't date. It's more about how I feel around them and when I'm with them than who they are on paper. The total package as others have said.

Also remember that one person's average is another person's attractive. So there's that.

This question means something different then when those of us who are 40+ experienced when we were younger because there's been an explosion in fat women & women who don't bother to try and make themselves look nice. That was very, very rare when I was young. To the point where you had to pay to go to the circus to see some weird looking women. I did know of two fat older women but they weren't in my family's social circle growing up. I didn't know any fat kids in school. When I was 30, fat women waddling around & thinking they deserve a man who actually puts effort into himself was starting to become a thing but was still not the norm. I think online dating influenced it.

I've actually never dated before. But I have had crushes. All of my crushes were based off of their personality or the way they treated me. I've had crushes who would be average in looks but they were kind, funny and shared similar interests. I've also had guys who were extremely attractive and were constantly hitting on me or trying to pursue me but I was not into them due to differences in personalities, work ethic, goals, hobbies or I knew they were just players and wanted to "have fun."

I don’t rate people that way and also it’s a package deal for me. It’s never just looks. I also haven’t dated in a long time but that’s how I feel. Consider WHY you are dating someone. If it’s just to have sex with someone who is highly attractive to you physically, that’s different. Again, I’m all about the whole package so I couldn’t just go based on looks. some many people are just hung up on looks.
You can have someone that has way above average looks but can be the worst narcissistic person on the planet, who is always angry about something, just an angry shrew, the whole world owes them something, they think just because they are pretty everything should be handed to them, just a horrible person to be with.
I would much rather be with someone I actually enjoy being with who is "average" looking, but because they have such a great personality that moves them up quite a few notches.

Average boys, who are also broke are doomed while average boys, who aren't broke are dumb. There is almost nothing worse than being a broke Mr Average.

It's kind of a wonder how average boys get in relationships if they're outclassed by the top 10% of men.

Hard to say. My idea of looks has changed over the years. As a teen and early 20s guy I had a (looks) "type." If she wasn't that type I couldn't date her. As the years went by, I came to appreciate the looks of women who were nothing like that type and my idea of attractive looks broadened. So could I now possibly be attracted to a woman who other people think just has "average" looks or even below average?

Yes, I could. Of course what may be average looks to someone else might be above or below average looks to me, there is some element of subjectivity in this assessment no matter how widely appealing or unappealing a woman might be. But even if she was of average or below average looks to me I might be able to date her if she hits a home run with the bases loaded in the other categories like personality, companionship and soul.

So basically myself lol, I've been with guys who according to others were ugly, but it's all a matter of taste. I certainly didn't think he was ugly but rather hot, and I've had friends whose partners I've looked at and was yuck but they said were hot. So appearance has never bothered me

Normally I don’t judge people if they’re average, above average, and etc… but my friends does tend to say the guys I’ve talked to, go on dates, and etc is really good looking. To me, if I find someone attractive by their kind smile and being well groomed is my initial physical attraction. But I mainly date someone or usually fall for someone who I find has a good soul/heart, inspires me, good connection, very intelligent, and something about them I find really unique that stands out to me.

My cut off for dating and relationships is just above average or average. So as long as the girl is that level or better looking, the rest is down to overall compatibility and personality. Average women are usually attractive (to me) and I consider myself just above average (like a 6.5)

I said that I would not consider dating someone who just average. The reason being that if I am dating someone then to me they are more than just average. Even though others may see them as average or even below average to me they are beautiful. So there is no way I would be dating someone who was average.
