It depends on his situation and on whose idea it was to eat there. If it was my idea, then me paying for it would be perfectly normal. If it was his idea, and he doesn't pay, I might feel like he does not respect me cause if he respected me, he should have chosen a Burger King or Dominoes Pizza restaurant that he could afford to buy me lunch or dinner at. And if he does not want to pay, he should not meet in person, he should talk on Facebook or through text.

Not at all. My boyfriend didn't pay for the first date which was fine because I knew he didn't have it because it wasn't his pay week.

I don't share that mindset. I think if you want to be equal then you should start doing things equally including paying for the date sometimes.
