Should I tell my crush I like him when he is about to move away for a year?

My crush is moving 3 hours away next month. He is only going for a year, and then coming back, but it isn't serious enough to establish a relationship/long distance yet. We'd need more time to talk and go on dates, but obviously we don't have time to do much of that now.

Should I just let go of it even though he is going to be back in a year?

Should I tell him anyway?

The timing really sucks. You can tell him if you wanna get it off your chest but I don’t think it’s the best idea. Mainly because ideally once you confess to a crush, if the feeling is mutual then you can start going on dates and really focusing on one another. To potentially start like this, with the distance between you and him, plus him trying to get settled wherever he’s at, it just doesn’t seem like the best idea. At least if there was already something established between you two.

Why couldn't you meet somewhere between your two locations for dates? That would be only a 90 minute drive for each of you. In my hometown, I can easily drive an hour just crossing from one side of the city to the other.
