No preferences are up to individuals.
when I look at a menu at a restaurant my preferences kick in.
i fully accept that out of 30 options, I will only want 20.
A friend who is a vegan and due to that, their preferences leave them with 3 options.
Also preferences are by their nature options, we don’t have to stick to them.
I have a preference to avoid certain foods, not end of world if I have some.
I can break my preferences and even change them as I see fit,
The 'key' word here is 'need'
... preferences are rooted in either/and personal sensation responses to life experiences,
especially EARLY formative sensations and their frequency of occurrence and their ensuing consequences.

Nope, but if your preferences end up making you lonely and bitter forever, don't whine about it. Men are good at making preferences, but sooking about it later.
wouldn't that go both ways?
Women are good at that too.
No, because someone with a different preference is probably going to get in a fight with you over it. Some people just can't accept the fact that people have different tastes.
That would only make it worse.
To some extent
