I don't know how normal it is for other people, but I married a man ten years older. We had comparable maturity levels, values, and our personalities complemented well. I don't think anyone even thought to take issue with such a trivial thing as age gap because we just belonged together.

I do think it can be more challenging when you start to have a gap that extends into a different generation, though. Think a millennial and a baby boomer... or a zoomer with Gen X (don't forget Gen X). I'm not talking about whether or not it's OK; that depends on the individual situations and what the couple wants. There's just a possibility, with such stark differences in experience and possibly thinking, that having genuine compatibility could be a challenge. My main concern would be predators or golddiggers, the usual concerns with an extra large age difference.

But ten years? Eh, no big deal. :) People will make an issue out of anything they can. Just live your life. "The people who mind don't matter, and the people who matter don't mind".

Popular media has made it not only normal but expected, in some social circles. The media has tried to switch the narrative of it being normal for older women to date younger men but there are some difficulties inherent, especially if the male isn't mentally mature and can't keep up with the woman's cultural maturity standards to what is decency. Every case is unique.

To coldly calculate the lowest appropriate age of a potential date according to your age, the unwritten rule is: your age divided by two, plus 7.

So, a in the case of a 40 year old man or woman:

40/2= 20

20+7= 27 years old

In the case of a 26 year old man or woman:

26/2=13

13+7=20 years old

But that's kind of stupid. And I think young women and men in their late teens or early twenties are better off dating someone their own age.

However, when people reach their mid-twenties, they're no longer going to change as fast and radically as before. They're less likely to be "easily impressed". They're starting to become "set in their ways". So if someone who's 24-25 years old loves someone older and that someone loves that person back truly, and everything clicks, then the age difference shouldn't matter.

Very normal. My cousin is married to a guy 15 years older than her. My friend is getting married to a guy that's also 16 years older than her. There's tons of people in the world that marry people even with 20 years of age. Sure it may rub some people the wrong way, but love is love. Fuck everyone else. If you care a ton about societal norms and what is likely going to be okay with everyone else use the "Half your age plus seven rule". Start with the older person in the equation to find out the youngest they would be able to date without falling outside of societal norms.

It is not normal in the statistical sense. It is not what happens most frequently and it is not extremely common. However, it is also not unusual and does not indicate that something is wrong with either or both of you.

It's uncommon but I wouldn't say it's abnormal. But of course, it depends on the ages involved. If it's a 30 year old man dating a 20 year old woman, it's strange. However, if it's a 60 year old man dating a 50 year old woman, I see no problem.

My boyfriend's mum was knocked up at 18 by her 28 year old boyfriend. He then promptly deserted them, about a year after their child was born.

All I'm saying is, maybe wait until they're in their early twenties. 18 year olds are barely legal and fucking stupid (speaking from experience here). Age gaps are fine but you both need to be mature

Lots of men are attracted to younger women.
Some women like older guys because of their looks, experience, mental maturity, and financial stability.

Some guys are attracted to older women. And some older women are attracted to young studs.

As long as they are both over 18 years old, it's nobody's business.

Depends on your age. If you’re 28, dating an 18 year old is weird. there's nothing that someone pushing 30 has in common with a teenager straight out of high school. I wouldn’t even wanna be friends with an 18 year old lol

Lol, always older over 30 women that get angry and jealous of men finally having dating choices over old women. Funny thing is you never hear them concerned when these same women were partying and hooking up exercising their "liberated" selves while most men were shut out, lonely and dateless. It all evens out once women lose their youthfulness, usually around 30.

Outside of making sure someone is of age why care? What and who says what's normal and why should you feel the need to conform to anyone else other than who's actually in said relationship. People have too much free time to be concerned about age gaps. People need to mind their own as long as no one is getting hurt. I've dated 10 years younger and older. Girls who been. sexually active since their mid teens.. can easily. level them selves up by the time they hit 18, 19,.20 their quite comfortable with the opposite. sex.. n see potential in a older guy.

At 18 a person is an adult n can choose to date as they see fit.

I'd definitely date 33 ... even 30 is it likely to happen.. doubt it.

I feel like it's very normal. Seen many grandfather's with a 20-30 year old woman... (Not just walking around either) Younger women seem to move towards the older men because of their looks, knowledge or wealth.

And older men just want to be with a younger woman. Makes them feel younger again (in my eyes). Unless they're doing extracurricular activities 😏

Maybe up to 10 years. I think any older than that and you're simply not going to have enough in common. It might be a stretch at 10 years. But generally women don't have a problem with dating men 10 years. older. And that's really what we're talking about here.

It is not most common but 10% of marriages have that gap. Assuming married people dated first I guess we can say 10% of people dating have that gap. So it is normal though not usual.

Depends on the age of the guy. If he is 20, no it isn't normal and shouldn't EVER happen. If he is 30 (so she is 20), I think it's borderline, but acceptable since they are both adults. If he's 40 or over, perfectly normal and common.

In Germany I've seen a 15 with a 25. It's all up to the person and laws. A 18 or younger though, getting with an older older age is generally frowned upon, unless it's the female going younger.
