I need to point out that I live in a country (Spain) where 2 kisses on the cheek is the usual form of greeting each other: men will greet women with 2 kisses, and women will greet men and women alike with 2 kisses. That obviously goes for people you already know, like friends, family members or acquaintances. But it also happens when you are introduced to someone else, unless maybe there is an enormous age difference, or in a very formal situation. Only on rare occasions and with family members you grew up with will you see 2 men kissing each other on the cheek.
What is the normal way of greeting your friends or family members in your country or due to your cultural background? (for instance, you may have moved from your home country to another place that has different habits) Are you comfortable with those habits or would you rather stand off a little?
I think a hug is a bit more impersonal, although it may involve more body contact. It’s certainly something I didn’t grow up with and it seems a bit odd to me. Or maybe I’m already ‘next generation’ and don’t understand younger people that well.
