Is it strange my boyfriend is going to play tennis over lunch with a female coworker?

He says me and the new hire are going to play tennis during lunch tomorrow and one of the assistants are coming to watch. He isn’t normally active during the day usually more morning or evening workout. I’m more of a play sports than go to the gym person so usually try to get him to play sports with me. Which is normally rejected. Maybe that’s why I find this odd. Also, he’s not one to do activities outside of happy hours with coworkers.

I think you should inquire why he doesn’t play sports with you though wants to play on the court with a coworker?

Basically, if the court is right near the job and he wants to make her feel welcomed & accepted to the new job then that is a perfectly logical explanation. A reminder that this is during lunch at work hours, highly doubt he’s going to “make a move” or flirt with her since it isn’t after work or something. That is at least how I’d see this if my girlfriend did this, maybe I’m wrong though my gut & heart say otherwise so I don't know.

Based on the title I voted no but based on the description I voted yes. Thing is tennis can just be entirely platonic so if he was a sportg type, she's a sporty type. They both really like tennis and just want to play a bit during lunch I don't see the issue. My colleagues sometimes play pingpong during lunch.

But the issue here is that he is deviating out of his normal behavior for her and thats suspicious. From a guy who isn't into sports i'd expect him to reject and not be in the mood for it just like he does with you because then he'd be consistent.

I think the strange part is is that his coworkers and him are going to go play a game and it'd be the perfect time to introduce you to them so everybody becomes friends so if he didn't invite you that's the part that I find strange and kind of weird and stupid really you should have invited you

It's strange because he doesn't want to do the same with you. If he was constantly playing sports with everyone around him, it would be pretty normal.
