Why do people catfish (not scammers) on dating apps?

They have a good enough personality to get matches on a fake account, I don't see the point in not just having that personality on their real account?

I guess it must be a matter of not being happy/confident with their looks (it's an insane thing to do, don't get me wrong).

They are happy enough with their personality... if only they looked like (whoever they pretend they look like).

I don't know what they think is going to happen if things work out. I'm guessing they convince themselves that the catfished person will not care what they look like (not to mention the catfishing) if they can get someone to fall in love with them as a person.

It's pretty fucked up. It's hard to even ponder the "why." Whatever the full reason you can be sure it's a really messed uo nest of reasons.

You match based on the account. The account is fake. So is the person behind it. Or they wouldn't make a fake account in the first place.
