Should couples get priority for tables at a restaurant over single people?

It seems like a waste of space/time and the restaurant gets less money.

They do get priority seating. When I go to a restaurant and my party is small, they do not let me sit at the bigger tables saying those tables are reserved for larger groups and I have to wait until a smaller table is available so I am not always served first if I arrive first when my party is smaller than the other groups.
