We all know the phrase, "nice guys finish last," which to some means that there is a general feeling that if you are a nice guy, girls won't want you because they may perceive you as a pushover, not manly enough, not exciting enough to sustain a relationship, etc.
What about nice girls? Sometimes they are considered to be people pleasers, pushovers, boring prudes, etc. that may not appeal to the average man.
So do nice girls finish last too?
Yes this can be a problem for women. They can get taken advantage of. Opportunistic / abusive men do exist and will look for weaknesses to exploit.
However this is nowhere near as bad as problem for women as it is for “nice guys”. Nice girls will:
Anyway the whole “nice guy / girl paradox” is really an oversimplification. It has more with frustration of people not being authenticate and not having enough self respect.
There are plenty of genuine nice guys / girls and that’s a good thing for the world. If you ask me society needs more of that especially nowadays.
It’s when people are fake nice yet actually manipulative is what people don’t like. It has to do with people being overly concerned about their “image”.
But from my observations genuine nice guys get much more heavily and unfairly “shit tested” by women. Women feel less shame about friendzoning them too.
And women often make to overly quick assumptions and judgments when it comes to the men they date. It’s partially biological but still it’s a problem and self destructive.
It generally applies that anyone who is unwilling to hurt or undermine others as a means of competition will fair poorly against those who are willing to hurt and undermine others.
The statement is generally made in matters of love and relationships though. The most common model is men chase, women choose. It has always been that way, and very little has changed in that regard. Women are not in direct competition with other women for mates, generally. Men have been notoriously indiscriminate about finding a woman who will merely choose him. If a woman’s first choice doesn’t select her, she will still be selected. Even if she feels like she’s settling, it’s a damn fine place to be compared to the man who never gets chosen at all. In that way, the saying applies more to men than to women.

I think it's only nice guys who tend to finish last. Nice girls are usually wifed up early and usually go for the Chads that end up treating them badly. It's a strange attraction dynamic.
Guys are so starved for attention in society, that when a girl gives them any attention, validation, or support in life, they become an angel to them. Girls get all the attention early on and their egos are heavily inflated.
Girls are born with value. Men are born with no value. Girls have to protect her value. Men have to build theirs.
That's the way it is. If a girl is nice, possesses feminine traits, and is physically attractive, a man will wife her up fast. But women's checklist is larger. Most women desire a man with wealth or have the potential to make wealth. If a man cannot at least signal that he can make wealth, most women are much less attracted to him.
I disagree a little bit. I think that only applies to the extroverted nice women. If you're not around a lot of people, who's supposed to choose you? We also have to add in today's societal norms. Dating apps, erasure of third places for common folks, a shift in what each gender finds important, and the increase of domestic violence shared through media.
How many times does a woman have to go through traumatizing events before she says no and start to avoid men all together.
That the same with men, too, but it seems like the majority of men don't want to give up, so they blame it on the lack of good women available. There are a lot of good women out there, but they're minding their business, not on the dating apps, in the comments section, in the house, hanging with the girls, or in some kind of quiet place. I believe that's the same with guys, but it's impossible to be together if we can't reach each other.
Not every man is a good man or a good fit for a good lady. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes

I feel like is it really the problem of the nice person or the people that they encounter that willfully take advantage of them. People tell nice people, you need to be more this more that in this world, but maybe other people are just jerks plain and simple that don't deserve them in the first place if all they can see is someone to abuse.

Prudish girls finish last, but not nice girls. The vast majority of men want nice women and generally don't think of them negatively unless she is ultra pure or squeamish about sex or certain sex acts.
It is largely only ever women who view a "nice" guy as a bad thing for all their messed up psychological reasons why. The majority of "nice" guys are not killers, stalkers, or predators, and women very well know that but they use these depictions as excuses for why they want the wrong guys.

I'd say so. I think nice people finish last because this world doesn't care about good or bad. A good person can be just successful as a bad person its the means that get them there that make them good or bad. Nice people finish last because being nice is to follow, it's to settle for what you get, it's to put the wants of others before your own... followers finish behind the leader it don't matter if the person got in the lead by good or bad means. Nice is a package deal it comes with a bunch of other "ideas" and that other ideas tends to hold people back.

The problem is that even the women that think they are good or nice actually are not and they are often low quality and have corrupted morals from the kind of people they surround themselves with. I think some people don't trust those who seem too nice or perfect, because often it's a farce. Those "nice guys" that weren't my type didn't take rejection well at all... And the ones that I trusted let me down the worst. And unfortunately the ones who are genuinely nice often fall prey to the worst kind of people who don't deserve them, cheat on them, or can't get over their bitch or asshole ex. Now, referring to your question, i guess it would be as your say. The diversity of variables large.
In the end, when it comes to girls, either there is a learning process to spot the predators, and avoid them, and eventually face those on the nice side, or will keep falling into the predator trap. In fact, is amazing how girls keep falling into the same situation over, and over, to guys with the same predator kind of profile.
As for guys, well, they need to learn as well to enter the game. Eventually, as that happens, they will also end up meeting the kind of girls that fall into the nice profile.
This is mostly roughly estimated, with no scientific support to it, of course. I'll admit that. It's my take.
I would say the majority are nice. It's just they are overwhelmed by predators, and this may give the false idea predators are everywhere, mostly because predators are more appealing.
Once people begin filtering that projected image, and start understanding how to actually evaluate others on a less superficial way, people will begin to find everything that exist out there.
It should read "nice" guys/girls finish last. As it doesn't mean actual nice people, just people who think they are nice.
The realty is that these tend to be clingy, entitled or jealous people, who latch on and turn into crazy "ex's" if you give them a chance.

All places in my town can split the bill up to 3-5 ways between people so it’s definitely possible at least for me. But the guys I’ve went on dates with won’t even budge to touch there wallets and as someone who gets awkward very fast the first thing i do is to be done with it so it’s just not something I’ll have to think about later. I'm referring to people who are actually nice with no pretense behind it. Some say they are too safe and "like puppies," cute and all, but they want something with a bit more bite. Why is it people have to be bad or a little bit bad to succeed in life? You listen to the thousands of complaints on this site alone and it seems like the reality is more men and women need to try a nice person.
The world isn’t always a nice place. I agree people should be kind and nice to others and spread love. So if someone wants to do that I support them. However I value a person who is authentic. That means maybe at times they feel negative energy and have a need to process that. Also sometimes the situation requires aggressive behavior to defend others. Legit, in high school I had a nice teacher who was so nice I thought she may have been a robot. Every single day, she came in with a smile, she greeted everyone, and I never saw her upset in the entire year and I saw her twice a day because she was my homeroom teacher as well. Thinking back on her, I felt there was no way we could have been any type of friends if she was our age because I couldn't deal with someone who had only one emotional setting, nice and happy kind of to your point. So, yeah, having read through many comments, it seems far more clear what the issue is. I don't want to ever date some angry dude who wants to throw me through a plate glass window when he's mad, but if we're having an argument, I don't want someone who's going to be like, whatever you want honey, I don't want to fight, you're right or if some guy is trying to hurt me, he would never ever ever ever throw a punch. Literally, vomit inducing. So, yeah, no to the super nice even if that is their honest factory setting.
Glad you came to that conclusion. And I know a few teachers, I bet your nice teacher left every day and either went straight to a bar or went to someone to vent.. she likely had some bad thoughts but had to “fake nice” as her job demanded it. The primary difference between the two is that nice girls can still get sex, but not a commitment, whereas a nice guy can't get either of those two things.

Well, you wouldn't define your terms but I consider a "nice" girl someone of high character who is honest and chaste.
Those are the best for long term, marriage and being moms.
