Is it bad that my boyfriend doesn’t want to dress up with me?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost two years. I’m way more excited about holidays like Christmas and Halloween than he is. We didn’t spend Halloween together last year, but we did do Halloween like things such as going to a pumpkin patch and going to a haunted house. This year we’re gonna go bar hopping together with him and a couple of his friends on Halloween. He said he didn’t want to spend money on a costume that he’ll only wear once and might not dress up at all or just wear a mask. Is that normal?

Some guys are just really practical and being "fun" at the expensive of practicality just isn't their style. Others, of course, put a higher priority on fun, and sometimes not enough priority on practicality.

What I can tell you is that you should NOT see this as a reflection of his feelings about YOU. If he was single, or with another girl, I can virtually guarantee that he wouldn't want to dress up either, because that's just not who he is. Clearly he does many other things with you and for you, so it's not that he has any negative feelings for you.

If your man does 80% of the things you'd like to do, he's already compromising in your favor. Give him the 10-20% he doesn't want to do, especially things he's just not comfortable doing. It has nothing to do with you - it's just letting him be the person he is.

It's just a preference. I thought you were going to say that he refuses to dress appropriately for occasions that call for some effort, like fine dining. You might suggest that he go as a particular character, and help him do that. You don't need a store costume for that.

I'd say that's pretty normal. Very few adults actually dress for Halloween. If you want to dress, that's fine. But you can't expect anyone else to want to.
