I was lead guitarist and vocalist in garage bands from age 17 to around 33 but was into rock and never sang any romantic songs to any of my girlfriends. It never occured to me.
Then I got busy with work and my guitar equipment wound up in a closet for 20 years.
After I was married, my wife knew that I had been a musician and encouraged me to start playing again. The first song I sang to her was an acoustic version of Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton. I changed the lyric "blonde" to "red" because she is a redhead. I thought the song was romantic and she thought it was real good except she didn't like the last verse about him getting wasted and her having to drive him home and put him to bed.
A couple years later, we had some friends who held karaoke parties at their house 4 or 5 times a year. They had lots of songs but mostly old stuff that I was familiar with but had never sung. But I sang songs to my wife at those parties. Brown Eyed Girl (because she has brown eyes), When a Man Loves a Woman, Stand By Me, Light My Fire, Everybody Loves Somebody by Dean Martin, Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis, and other stuff. I discovered that I could croon quite well and ham it up.
I have no idea as I am not in a relationship and I don't recall having ever seen or heard my siblings sing to their partners. Perhaps this is something that is not so popular in my family because we tend to be more discreet with public display of affection.
Is it really possible nowadays to sing romantic songs since most younger generation people have no idea what a romantic song is? I mean, rap or hip hop is certainly nothing romantic and besides that, what kind of romantic songs are there that kids born after the turn of the millennium would be familiar with?
Those born in the 50's or 60's may know romantic songs but not the latest generations.
I'm not a good singer but I get random lyrics in my head sometimes. So when I have an idea ill either sing it or make it with AI. My ex found it really endearing when I came up with something.

I dated a guy who liked to sing romantic songs. I must admit, I ate it up like candy!!! 🥰
